Elizabeth "Bette" Pillar Scott died on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 87. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided in Sayreville before moving to East Brunswick where she lived for most of her life.
Bette was a star player in the New Brunswick Women's Basketball League in the late 1940s-early 1950s, where she met her husband Harold, who was her coach. She was a lifelong fan of Rutgers Women's Basketball and rarely missed a home game.
She enjoyed road trips and camping with her family and had visited all 50 states. She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed gardening and playing golf. Her greatest joy was spending summers in Cape May surrounded by family and friends.
She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, South River and a member of the Corpus Christi Altar Rosary Society.
Bette was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 2002. Surviving are two sons: Robert and his wife Marlene of Monroe Township and Richard and his wife Karen of Jackson; two daughters: Joanne Scott-Santos and her husband Victor of Edison and Karen Scott of East Brunswick; two sisters, Barbara Collins of East Brunswick and Marie Kuric of Valencia, California; three grandchildren: Michael, Amanda and Veronica Scott; a step-grandchild, Christopher Ropek and three great-grandchildren: Brendan, Tyler & Nicholas Scott.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, 8:15 AM at The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi RC Church, South River. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
