The Crisis Room Ministry at Aldersgate was begun over 30 years ago by one of Aldersgate's charter members, Fran Mickett. Fran started the Crisis Room in response to clothing and food needs of many people in the area. As this ministry developed, she enlisted the help of the Aldersgate United Methodist Women. The Crisis Room remained with the UMW until about 2000, when it became a separate ministry of the church.
Families from the Middlesex County area can get food, clothing and financial assistance from the Crisis Room. We provide food and clothing assistance with no questions asked. Social service agencies in the area recommend families who need financial help.
Clothing and food are donated by church families and other churches, organizations and individuals throughout the year. We receive funding from Aldersgate, Trinity Presbyterian Church, from some of the proceeds of the CROP Walk, from private donations, and a few small grants.
Our Hotline for assistance, as indicated below, is 732-257-9920 and can be reached 24 hours per day. In addition, we are always happy to receive additional donations, and we also welcome volunteers to help out in this ministry.

What We Need
Remember, if you have been blessed and are in a position to give rather than to receive from the Crisis Room, we desperately need donations of food. In particular, we need the following items: canned meats, tuna fish, canned pastas, cereal, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly. If you do not find it easy to shop for these items, a monetary donation will also help us to buy food for those in need.
We also need volunteers for Monday mornings, to help sort and distribute clothing and food - we also need volunteers at other times to return calls, make appointments and meet clients who need food.
