14-Year-Old Admits to Making False Bomb Threat

The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School was evacuated Tuesday after police received a bomb threat at the school.

A 14-year-old student at the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School on Rues Lane admitted Wednesday that he was joking when he made a false bomb threat on Tuesday

The school was evacuated at just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, after a student said there was a “bomb threat” in the bathroom. Students were evacuated to the East Brunswick Square Mall and taken to Mega Movies, where five theaters were made available for them and staff to stay. A search of the buidling by the State Police K-9 unit found no bomb.

On Wednesday, Detective Sgt. Joseph Alves was continuing the investigation when school officials told him they believed a 14-year-old male student at the school was responsible for the false bomb threat.  Detective Sgt. Alves interviewed the individual along with a family member and he admitted to making the false bomb threat.  The juvenile stated that he made the bomb threat as a joke not realizing the consequences of his actions.

The juvenile was charged with creating a false public alarm and released into the custody of a family member.
