Christie Postpones Halloween Statewide After Sandy
"Postponing Halloween celebrations by five days is a commonsense and necessary step" during post-Sandy cleanup, the governor says.
Effective immediately, Halloween is postponed in New Jersey.
Gov. Chris Christie issued an executive order declaring that no New Jersey town can hold trick-or-treating today, Oct. 31. If towns had planned to do so, they must move trick-or-treating and any public celebrations to Monday, Nov. 5.
Towns that already moved trick-or-treating to another day other than Oct. 31 can keep their plans, but state officials are still suggesting Monday instead.
“I’ve taken this action to minimize additional risks to lives and the public safety as we begin the process of rebuilding and recovering from Hurricane Sandy,” Christie said in a statement. “In too many communities in our state, the damage and losses from this storm are still being sorted out, and dangerous conditions abound even as our emergency management and response officials continue their work.
“As governor, it is my responsibility to use all available resources of the state government to protect against the emergency created by Hurricane Sandy – postponing Halloween celebrations by five days is a commonsense and necessary step to accomplish that.”

I'm wondering the same thing...i know my 5 year old will be devastated if he doesn't get to go and although I've heard the 5th for a while now I'm hearing that some towns just did their own thing...we usually go in eb or south river but i can't find any info on either town as to if they're actually having it on the 5th...I'm hoping they didn't decide to do it earlier and have to hunt for a town in the area using the 5th

I know that here in East Brunswick they did trick-or-treat at a farm with cars yesterday, but I was taking refuge at my parents' house in Manalapan all week, since I am very pregnant and my husband has been overseas for all of Sandy. My three-year-old and I have only just returned to East Brunswick today since the power was only just restored, and now I am wondering if the cars at the farm event was really meant to be the only option for EB, or if I can take her out at all tomorrow. I can't find any information...

You give me hope that your power was restored. We live in frost woods and still nothing. Staying with my in laws with my three year old and five month old in Jackson. We did go to the trick or trunk at heavenly farms but it was crazy. Not sure if that was the only option

Well i know now south river and Milltown are definitely doing trick or treating tomorrow...still no idea about eb it seems as though the thing at the farm may have been it...I've been in Edison until today as well, but now there's power back between obt and river rd so i had no idea about what they were doing yesterday...i know Edison is also doing it tomorrow, but many areas don't really celebrate Halloween in general...it seems like south river or Milltown may be the best alternatives if eb isn't having it
