EBHS Ranks High on Newsweek List of Best High Schools

EBHS placed 283 out of 1,000 high schools across the nation.

The always talked about Newsweek best public high schools in the country list is out, and East Brunswick ranked No. 283.

For comparison sake, other nearby open enrollment high schools ranked accordingly: J.P. Stevens ranked 338, South Brunswick 683, West Windsor-Plainsboro South 132,West Windsor-Plainsboro North 197, Freehold Boro 675 and Freehold Township 970.

This is the second time in a month that EBHS has garnered such an honor. Earlier this month, U.S. News and World Report ranked the high school 40 among New Jersey High Schools and 891 among 21,000 high schools nationwide.

According to the magazine, this year’s ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools in the nation—the ones that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered per student (5 percent).

East Brunswick had a graduation rate of 100 percent, a college bound rate of 98 percent, an average SAT score of 1,665 and an AP score of 4.

This is great news and well deserved. But please remember that at the same time as we get this accolade, the ever over-zealous Acting Commissioner Cerf is concerned by the achievement gap in our Middle school and Junior High. He should be reminded of the success we achieve in the High school and he should understand that is, in part, due to the work done at HMS and CHurchill!!
