Field Hockey Bounces Back From Losses

Team improves to 6-3.

Coming off back-to-back losses, East Brunswick Coach Cindi Todoroff figured it was as good a time as any to make some changes with her field hockey team.

Todoroff decided to put Lauren Cram at high forward and then play three forwards behind her.

"With that high forward position, we're looking to get the ball up the field quicker," Todoroff said. "You can get some quick scores."

The first time it was tried, Cram had three goals and two assists in a 5-2 win over Sayreville on Sept. 23. Analise Friere scored the other two goals in the win.

On Monday, Cram had two assists in a 4-0 win over Old Bridge. Friere had two goals. Rachel Huang and Sarah Kelner also scored. Danielle De Milio added an assist.

In its previous two games, East Brunswick was defeated twice. It lost 4-3 in overtime to South Brunswick on Sept. 19. It was also defeated by Metuchen, 2-1, on Sept. 21.

Cram, Friere and Huang scored goals against South Brunswick. Huang had the goal against Metuchen.

"We played a high level of hockey, but we just missed opportunities," Todoroff said. "Unfortunately, we didn't win the games."

Earlier in the season, East Brunswick had wins against Metuchen (2-1), Old Bridge (4-0), Piscataway (3-0) and Monroe (1-0). The team was also defeated by South Plainfield (2-1).

Now at 6-3, East Brunswick is a good team that is looking to get better.

"After (the game on Sept. 26), we have a few days off until we play against South Plainfield on Saturday," Todoroff said. "We'll have several days of practice where we can fine tune things as we get ready for the second half of the season."

Kind of the way the team did after losing twice recently.

"A loss really isn't a loss as long as you learned something from it," Todoroff said. "We definitely learned from our losses. Right now, we're just going to keep on keeping on."
