Man Charged with Assaulting Police Officer at Tilted Kilt
Kyle Cohen, of Monroe, was charged after allegedly hitting restaurant employees and resisting arrest.
There was some trouble at the Tilted Kilt Restaurant this week.
The East Brunswick Police Department responded to the Tilted Kilt at about 5 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a disorderly customer who had assaulted restaurant employees.
Patrolman John Sisolak and Joseph Kowal arrived and found Kyle Cohen, 23, of West Dante Road, Monroe, acting disorderly. While being placed under arrest, Cohen assaulted Patrolman Sisolak. Patrolman Sisolak did not sustain any injuries, according to police.
After being taking into custody Cohen was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained while resisting arrest. After being released from the hospital Cohen was charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of $10,000.00 bail.

A google search revealed that the Tilted Kilt (aka Hooters in Kilts) had been successfully sued by the city of Evanston, Illinois to prevent them from opening downtown . Guess they correctly anticipated incidents like this one. How long has this place been open, and already the police had to be summoned?

Way to go Mayor Stahl, did you count this place in your mythical 40% Rt. 18 vacancy reduction? and since you cut the police this will mean more overtime and less coverage of residential areas.

But EB needed another Hooters-like restaurant. The real Hooters is WAY on the other sign of town! Besides, EB also has two smoke shops for folks that need new bongs.

I don't think we can blame the mayor for this one. Brunswick Square Mall is privately owned, and The TK is not seen from Route 18. I doubt the town council had the power to say no to Simon when they made the ill-advised decision to lease the space to this type of restaurant. Does anybody know for a fact whether the mayor had the power to keep this restaurant out of Brunswick Square Mall? If yes, then he definitely messed up. And if not, does that mean that Simon could choose to rent to any business, like an "adult" bookstore if they were so inclined?

I think the only time the township would have a say is if the applicant had to have plans outside of either zoning or planning laws. However, I have to agree that this sort of establishment will more than likely have police situations. I have written to Simon that this sort of business is not family friendly and Panera is right next door.
