Margaret Lee Selected to Olympic Development Program

ODP selection means a busy summer for Lee.

Like many East Brunswick athletes, Margaret Lee has been playing soccer since she was a young girl.

Last month, the U-14 East Brunswick Soccer Club Player’s hard work paid off when she was selected to the New Jersey Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.

“Margaret is one of the most hard working girls on the team,” said Alicia Hall, Margaret’s coach on the EB Spirit. “There is not a moment in a game where Margaret is not hustling to win a 50/50 ball or rushing to get back and defend.”

As a member of the program, Margaret will play in the ODP regional tournament this summer and attend a camp in July at the University of Rhode Island with the NJ ODP Team.

According to NJYS, the ODP program is part of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, a national program set forth by the 1978 Amateur Sports Act. The program is used to identify players for the state, regional and national teams. The program is a multi-step process that begins at the state level and continues to regional and national pools and teams.

Margaret said that while she is excited to be selected, she is taking everything in stride. She said the selection process included two tryouts last year.

“My mom told me in the car,. I didn’t really do anything,” she said.
