(Poll) Should East Brunswick Hold Fourth of July Fireworks?
It's too late for this year, but let us know if you want East Brunswick to have a fireworks display for next year's Fourth of July celebration.
It was in 2010 that East Brunswick celebrated its 150th birthday. It was also the last year that the township sponsored a Fourth of July celebration with fireworks.
Due to financial considerations, the township decided not to hold them last year and won’t be holding them again this year. In fact, other than the town’s birthday, East Brunswick hasn’t had its own fireworks display for years.
So tell us, given the difficult economic times, should the township still try and pay for a fireworks display next year, or are you happy going to see one in a neighboring town?

Yes. We in East Brunswick pay for a full 4 course meal in taxes and only get to the salad and soup. Not right. There is plenty of wastefully spending that can be realized. We need to start with the board of education and the 3 super intendant titles to a tune of 1 million plus. All for the kids.....

I thought the 150th birthday was in 2010? Am I missing something?

No, it's apparently it's me that was missing something. It was 2010, not this year.

Maybe, but you still have your sense of humor ;)

The town should get creative, like Highland Park, New Brunswick and Milltown who manage to raise the money through commercial sponsorship and vendor concessions. If the EB council is dominated by Republicans they should welcome the opportunity to hold a popular and patriotic event through a partnership with the private sector.

This town hasn't had fireworks for years and when they did they were terrible. Tell me in a time of economic hardship, how is little Milltown able to afford fireworks, why is South River able to afford fireworks. East Brunswick a town that is obviously more well off then the other two towns I just mentioned uses the excuse its an economic hardship. How come I don't see Milltown using that excuse, I'm sure there budget is way tighter then East Brunswick's. Its a disgrace, East Brunswick should be ashamed of themselves, they cant afford to shell out a few thousand dollars for fireworks. There fire department is raved as the best around, they could be out there making sure everything goes smoothly for the firework show. Maybe we should spend a few thousand less on the fire department a few thousand more on fireworks. Look at that new firehouse they built near CVS it looks like a palace and they don't have money for fireworks, its nonsense. Oh and what happened to the fishing derby, first we had a nice one at Dallenbachs lake, then they moved it to a pond which was a sad bad decision, do they even have that anymore? I guess money is too tight to have a fishing derby as well. How about bringing us some good fireworks and having a good fishing derby for the kids. The residents of this town deserve it considering how high the taxes are. Bottom line!
