Rabid Fox Found in East Brunswick

The animal is the second to test positive for rabies in East Brunswick in the last month.

A rabid fox was found in the vicinity of Matawan Road, making it the second rabid animal to turn up in East Brunswick in the last month.

According to a press release from the Middlesex County Office of Health Services, the fox was captured by the East Brunswick Animal Control officer in the area of Matawan Road and Squire Street.

It was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory, where it tested positive for rabies.

No human or animals were reported exposed to or bitten by the fox, according to the county.

The fox is the second animal found in East Brunswick in the last month to test positive for rabies. A rabid skunk was found near the Mid-State Mall parking lot at the end of April.

According to the county, the fox is the sixth rabid animal to be found in Middlesex County in 2013.

Residents are advised to report unusually behaving wild animals to Animal Control and avoid contact with wild animals altogether, according to the county.
