South Brunswick Businessman to Challenge Holt for Congressional Seat
Republican Eric Beck, who will oppose U.S. Rep. Rush Holt in the race for the 12th Congressional District, believes smaller government and a flat tax are crucial to an economic turnaround.
Citing a need to improve unemployment by ending governmental mismanagement of the economy, South Brunswick resident Eric Beck announced a bid earlier this year to challenge U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12) for the U.S. Congress in New Jersey’s 12th District.
Beck, a small business owner and entrepreneur from Dayton, started Risk Masters in 2009 as a risk management consulting firm specializing in business continuity management. Beck also holds an MBA from Rutgers University Business School.
He said Rep. Holt is out of touch with voters and lacks the business understanding to stimulate job creation.
"My opponent has spent his entire career in academia and has never been in a position to run a business, create jobs, and deliver a product to a private marketplace," Beck said. "I've spent my entire career in the private sector. I've been in the consulting business for 23 years. I think what I bring to the table is a deeper and better understanding of how to grow the economy and how to create jobs, which lifts all boats in society."
Uncomfortable with the economic policies of the Obama Administration, Beck said Rep. Holt is one of the prime enablers of what he sees as a failing situation.
"Jobs come from small businesses is a common refrain we hear and to some degree that's true," Beck said. "The primary driver of job creation is new business startups, and I base that on the research of the Kauffman Foundation. Historically in this country, there are somewhere between 600,000 to 700,000 new companies started every year that hire five to seven employees on average, and my company is typical of that.
"If you look at the low end of both scales, we need to create about 3 million jobs just to keep the unemployment rate where it is. Part of the reason we're struggling is that we're not creating enough new small businesses, so we need to boost the number of startups and stop burdening them with every type of mandate imaginable."
Beck said encouraging entrepreneurship is the key to driving down unemployment numbers, but added that the country will not climb out of the recession by overtaxing the wealthy with a millionaires’ tax.
"Taxing the rich is a classic socialist mantra, but it's just not the answer to helping the middle class. I'm an advocate of supply side economics," Beck said. "Deficits do matter and I'm a believer in incentives. We need more wealthy people and we need more risk takers. We need to give people an incentive to put their money at risk. If we start overtaxing the rich because we think it benefits the middle class, what we're doing is taking away the resources the wealthy would put at risk for sustainable job growth in the private sector."
When tax rates for the wealthy grow too high, Beck said they are more prone to look for ways to pay less into the system.
"When tax rates are too high, people will find ways to legally hide their income in tax shelters, so you don't get more tax revenue, you get less," he said. "All studies show that, and there is this tremendous denial on the far left who think this is the way to go."
Beck said he supports a repeal of the "Obamacare" health care plan, in addition to a 15 percent flat tax on individuals and corporations.
"We need to broaden the tax base," he noted. "We may even need a small consumption tax. But the idea is to have a comprehensive and fundamental tax reform and move to a flat tax. The overall goal should be revenue neutrality and to grow the economy, grow tax revenue, and help close the deficit by starting to pay off our debts."
By electing more Republicans to state government, Beck said New Jersey could continue the turnaround experienced under Gov. Chris Christie in private sector job creation.
"New Jersey had a zero net job creation prior to (Gov. Christie's) election with only one exception, and that's government jobs," Beck said. "We're starting to see a reversal of that. There's been a three-to-one ratio of government jobs reduced to private sector jobs created. (Christie) is creating an environment in New Jersey that's economically friendly and part of that is trying to constrain the growth of property taxes and that's my top priority. I think I've got more experience and I'm more credible than my opponent to address that."
Beck has already picked up endorsements from the Mercer County Republican Committee as the GOP nominee for the 12th Congressional District, which includes South Brunswick, Cranbury, East Brunswick, East Windsor, Hightstown, Lawrence and Princeton.
"Central New Jersey needs his voice in Washington, and I believe he is uniquely qualified to represent our hardworking families and take on the economic challenges facing our nation," said Mercer County Republican Committee Chair David Fried via release. "As a New Jersey business leader, Eric will present the strongest possible alternative to Rush Holt’s tax-and-spend extremism that is completely out of step with the needs of his district and the country.”
With an atmosphere of partisan politics in Washington D.C., Beck said he is suited to reach across the aisle to form a consensus based on his background. As a community activist, Beck served as the New Jersey State Director for the Concord Coalition, a grassroots organization co-founded by former U.S. Senators Warren Rudman (R-NH) and the late Paul Tsongas (D-MA). The group attempted to educate the public about the "adverse effects of continued deficit spending."
As director, Beck oversaw grassroots organizational development and training programs in partnership with elected representatives and private organizations.
"I tend to be fiscally conservative, but I have a partner who's a strong advocate of Obama," he said. "We try to find common goals around serving our customers who have a problem they want us to solve. We have more in common than we have differences, and I try to focus on that. One of the ways we can create value for taxpayers is by respecting the other side and bringing people together."
Beck said the divisiveness currently affecting the country on a number of issues is ultimately pulling attention away from what should be our chief priority, which is economic growth.
"We need to stop this class warfare we're seeing from the other side," he said. "It's un-American. We should be focused on trying to grow the economy and lifting all boats. It's interesting that the modern day Democratic Party is different from the prominent Democrat I worked with in former Sen. Paul Tsongas, who was a great advocate for the business community."
Beck said that while Tsongas believed in more government spending than what he would be comfortable with, they shared the same outlook towards the business community. That outlook, according to Beck, will be vital to speed up the country's economic recovery.
"Tsongas believed in the business community and that you can't be pro-jobs and anti-business at the same time," Beck added. "Unfortunately modern day Democrats, including the president, don't see that. That's why we need a change in this district and a change in the nation, with both parties who respect the business community and don't see them as the enemy. That's not a point of view that will help the poor, it will just make the poor grow poorer."

Yeah right you wanna reach out to the other side.... is that why he resorts to the flat tax and then labels those who disagrees with him as socialist... not the best start Beck. I can't wait till he explains how a flat tax benefits NJ business/ taxpayers. Should be fun.. all the best Eric.

A true flat tax is a good idea. I agree you have to remove all special interest tax breaks. No breaks for hedge fund managers or for and other reason you earn you pay. I do believe there needs to be a safety net for those economically disadvantaged where they would be responsible for some payment but no more than 2 % of their wages. I am surprised you did not see the tax the progressives really want which is a consumption tax aka a value added tax. This is not your typical right wing only take care of the wealthy proposal. Maybe you missed that in the article.

middle of the road, I understand what you are saying and if it were to happen the way you are suggesting, I might consider the validity of a flat tax.
However, the way things work, the flat tax will end up shafting the middle class yet again. If your income is $100,000 your 15% flat tax would be $15,000. That leaves you with $85,000 to live on. Not bad. If your income was $50,000 (like much of the middle class) your tax would be $7500. That would leave you with $42,500 -- a much bigger bite given the cost of living. If your income was one million dollars, you'd pay $150,000. You'd have $850,000 left to get by on. A challenge most of us would welcome.
Now really -- a progressive tax is much more fair. The smallest bite from those who earn the least, the largest bite from those who earn the most -- think of it as adjusting the size of the bites to have an equal impact on the people paying the taxes.
And I wish I could believe that special interest tax breaks would be removed across the board. I think that tax breaks would duly get removed from the average citizen -- from you and me -- but that somehow the 'banksters' and their like would find a way to make sure it doesn't apply to them.

All incumbents must be voted out of office until they are willing to work together. We are sending the wrong message when we continue to re-elect the same people and expect different results. This is not about party, but about effecting real change in Congress. If the electorate sent the "throw the bums out" message to congress, I guarantee they would change. A vote for the incumbent is a vote for MORE OF THE SAME.

Patrick, you are right. (I am RIGHT is WRONG.)
Many incumbents have been irresponsible and certainly some of them have caused the terrible gridlock our government is experiencing right now. We can hope that the Tea Party incumbents and the Republicans in Democrat clothing will be ousted.
But Rush Holt is truly a Representative of the people of our district. And he is dedicated to doing what is best for America and the American people. No, he is not perfect. No, I don't always agree with him. But I believe he is honest and I believe he deserves yet another term representing me. And us.
NO, Mr. Beck. I do NOT want a businessman running things. Certain businessmen and women are ruining education in New Jersey. Others are depleting the environment. Business is all too often interested in short term profit, not the well-being of people.
This "job creator" thing needs a rest. That is business-speak for "Give me the money and I'll maybe trickle a little down to you." Forget it. Read Naomi Klein's book The Shock Doctrine. And if you care about education, read Diane Ravitch's book The Death and Life of the Great American School System.
At this point the Republican talking points are dangerous to our country. Think Brave New World. Modern day Democrats -- including Rush Holt -- are NOT "anti-business." They just want to prevent a return of the 'Gilded Age' where business held almost all the cards and the rest of the people held next to none.

From that article you took the idea that these are short term fixes. Business start ups are not short term. Let's get some facts right. With the exception of FDR the big expansion of government happened Johnson and the Great Society. The ideas were noble but the results are not there to support it. In fact the results suggest a different direction. No decrease in percentage of poor, drop out rate drug addiction, or teenage pregnancy. Your point about private business people wanting to get their hands on public education dollars is accurate and that needs to be prevented. Beck never attacked Holt he contrasted their differences and put forth things he believes are better for the county.. So why assume he can't reach across the aisle. The best economic times last 20years were under Clinton with a republican congress I don't know it that is the solution today but taxes were cut , and the budget balanced. Welfare reform worked people were given opportunity and took advantage of it. The government did not just hand them something they provided incentive.. Fact the capital gains rate was at 35% under Clinton he lowered it to 20% and Bush lowered it to 15%. Why blame republicans for lowering the rate. The facts show Clinton cut the rate by 15% and Bush by 5%. Look it up. The economy grew in both cases. I am not suggesting to cut it further. I am with you on Bush he was a big spender and by no means was a fiscal conservative and his spending caused damage.

middle of the road, I for one appreciate your thoughtful observations.
I am not sure about some of your assertions, though.
"The ideas were noble [Great Society] but the results are not there to support it." We do not have seniors living in toolsheds and eating cat food to survive, which happened in the early sixties. Medicare and updated Social Security have not totally addressed the needs of seniors, but they surely have helped. Head Start is one educational program that has proved to be effective. Vietnam assured that we would never achieve the Great Society as it was envisioned, but progress was made -- things would be much worse today had those programs never been implemented.
Beck never attacked Holt he contrasted their differences and put forth things he believes are better for the country." I agree that Mr. Beck is trying not to come across as an ideologue. But like many other Republican lawmakers in New Jersey, when the surface is scratched, he touts the party line. And he DID say, ""Tsongas believed in the business community and that you can't be pro-jobs and anti-business at the same time. Unfortunately modern day Democrats, including the president, don't see that." That tells me that Mr. Beck believes that Rush Holt is anti-business. Which is not true at all.

I agree with Morrigan and Patrick. Any time you hear some right wing GOPer say that he wants smaller government, a flat tax or lower taxes (on the rich), WATCH OUT. Any one remember how Bush said he would be the CEO president and run America like a business? Riiight, he ran America just like ENRON, right into the ground. He cut taxes mainly benefiting the rich and blew a huge hole in the budget creating gigantic deficits. He even cut taxes during a time of war; no other president had done that. Beck is a despicable libertarian Ayn Rand type of right wing GOPer. This is the big problem with the US today: one party has become so extreme, so radical that compromise and congeniality has become impossible. For the record, Francis Bellamy was indeed a socialist, a Christian socialist. He wrote the sermon, Jesus the Socialist and THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. Holt is not a socialist and he will get my vote. I don't believe in this silly nonsense that you should vote everyone out. Holt is doing a good job and Beck is a radical freak, no contest.

But the guy running didn't claim from the git go that the other side was a socialist. Didn't offer a New York/New Jersey economy killing flat tax. While claiming that he wants to work with the other side. Fact is the new 12th is even more blue, and that is the reason Sipprelle didn't run again. This guy is highly unqualified, and is starting off on the wrong note to attract that 20% you speak of... and frankly in the new 12th its more like 45% Dem 30% R and 25% swing. Just look what districts where cut out of the 12th and what was added. and BTW this guy worked with the Concord Coalition last in 1994... a mere placeholder for the R's on the ballot.

Please look into Rush Holt's record. Among other things, he was on a select bipartisan commission [Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), Congressman John Campbell (R-CA), Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ), Congressman Walter Jones (R-NC), Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI), and Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) on planning and appropriations.
Rush Holt can -- and does -- work with both Democrats and Republicans. He should not be replaced. If what you are saying about Mr. Cody is true, then he should be in Congress along with Rush Holt. there you go... you ask your questions that suggest you have no idea what a member of Congress actually does, then change the subject...
Look at Beck's linkedin page... then you tell me why I should elect THAT guy over Holt.
I'll say this once. Holt is perhaps one of the most important voices in Congress, His understanding of science is unmatched. He understands that a small start up could lead to profits for the company and the society as a whole. His understanding of energy is not matched in Congress. He understands the debate about fusion as well as carbon emissions. Sure, he's a been geeky. But he is wicked smart and can still explain the most hard to understand concept in science to a lay person. This all means that we have a powerhouse in Congress representing us. Not some empty shirt who sees Congress as a good career path. I saw Rush talk with a very angry tea party member at a community fair. He was rational, and discussed the issue while the person literally shouted the words communist at him. His campaign staff was trying to pull him away, but he held his own, cooly, calmly like a leader.
I'm proud to have Rush Holt as my member of Congress.

Thanks for proving the point Rush Holt must GO! The link you provided proves the case that he has accomplished nothing in his tenure as our Congressman. For him to use these crumbs as proof of accomplishments further shows his disconnect with taxpayers trying to pay their bills, keep their jobs and take care of their families.
1. Over 42,000 letters that he personally read and responded to? That’s over 40 per day 365 days a year…physically impossible. Plus how can he do this while watching Jeopardy?
2. He visited a school garden, a local business and a couple of high schools? These are not accomplishments they are well…things he did to get a photo op to help him get reelected.
3. He helped only one resident…one…. with a $3,500 tax refund. What about all of our tax dollars going to DC and we get the lowest return of any state. And he takes credit for $3,500 is he serious?
4. Expedited a residents passport – “A” resident…”one” resident…is he serious???

I am RIGHT, have you ever heard the expression, "throwing the baby out with the bath water?"
There are SOME do-nothing Congresspeople in Washington. There are EVEN MORE do-something-that-hurts-America Congresspeople. I agree that we should get rid of them.
But there are experienced, moderate, thoughtful Congresspeople who should retain their seats. They're the ones who know the ropes in Washington and they know how to negotiate and get things done.
Despite Winston's 'facts' -- most of which are more accurately misrepresentations -- Rush Holt has the best interests of his constituents in mind. And the best interests of our country. I want someone who values intelligence, honesty and fairness to represent me in Congress. And that is Rush Holt.
Winston
8:40 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Morrigan....misrepresentations? All I did was post his voting record and address propaganda published by his own office...how can you claim they are misrepresentations?
morrigan
9:14 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Well, what I mean by misrepresentation is taking a part of something and representing it as the whole thing.
For example, a bill may contain a rider that is unacceptable -- like anti-environmental provisions that were attached to a must-pass spending bill in 2011. Rush Holt had good reasons for opposing those bills you mentioned. Perhaps you ought to look into them.
Besides which, the votes you are talking about took place from 1999 to 2004. That represents the first third of his time as our Congressman. It is now 2012. He has cast over 9,000 votes since entering Congress.
As I said, I do not always agree with him. But he really thinks about these bills and votes according to what he believes is right. And he communicates with his constituents. Even when he and I disagree, after I hear his explanation, I have to agree that he has some valid points!

Winston, I'll answer any question you ever have about Holt if you can contextualize each and every vote you post here... what where the riders on the bills etc etc... All you do is go to a web site find the stuff you don't agree with and paste it. How is that demonstrating any sort of nuance of intellectual understanding. It just shows that you know right vs left.
I'm willing to debate any of those votes with you one any point if you just mention the HR#... But you can't do that can you. anything I post anything here that challenges you you retort with a childish answer the question moan.

Vote all the bums out is a mindless bumper sticker. Each election is unique, the match up of candidates is also unique. I vote based on the particular candidates, their records and what they have to say. I will not be ruled by some mindless slogan or bumper sticker (Vote all dem bums out, hiccup - sounds like the rantings of boozed up bar room habitues). It's a case by case situation; to be hide bound and limited by a slogan is ridiculous. Holt is an effective intelligent congressman, he deserves to be returned to office. We have a duopoly, we have only 2 parties to choose from. The GOP has gone off the cliff into crazy land. It has morphed into a radical far right wing party. The Democratic party has become a moderate middle of the road party with just a few actual liberals or progressives left. I wish we had more choices. We don't need any more right wing parties because the GOP fits that bill and then some. But we do need an actual liberal, progressive workers party. We don't have that now. The Democrats give lip service to unions but have not done much in the way of union legislation. So you vote for the lesser of the evils in too many cases or don't vote and allow some Tea bagger/Ayn Randian/libertarian freakazoid gain office. No contest, I will vote for Holt who is not a lesser candidate...he's very good.

As Joe said, voting all incumbents out is not a good idea. Really -- would you be willing to undergo surgery if all the surgeons in the hospital were first-year doctors? Would you choose for your kids to go to a school where all the teachers are first-year teachers? Would you go to have your car fixed at a place where all the mechanics were first-year mechanics?
Well, I do not want my laws made by a Congress full of first-year Congresspeople. Experience and knowhow count for something. And there are some members of Congress who deserve reelection. Rush Holt is one of them.

You don't get to set the parameters of dialogue, you are not the boss of how I chose to answer your whining questions. Your questions (autocratic demands) have been answered by Patrick, Morrigan and me. You just ignore them and rant on. Do you not realize that a congressman's record is more than just what they do in the House of representatives, it also includes what they do for their constituents in their districts. It is more than fair to include those activities in his accomplishments. In case you don't know, Rush Holt is not dictator of the house, he can't make laws and enact bills all on his own. Winston acts as if Holt was or should be absolute czar of the house. He has to work with his peers, he has to compromise and he has to work against a radicalized extreme right wing GOP that has engaged in hyper obstructionism since Obama's been in office.

Some of Holt's accomplishments (it's not just what he does in the house that makes him effective):
Responding to 14,148 letters, phone calls, and emails from Mercer County residents who had shared their ideas and concerns. He personally read and replied to 42,295 constituent communications last year.
Helping secure $250,000 from the Department of Justice to provide temporary housing in Trenton for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Visiting the school gardens at Hopewell Elementary in Hopewell Borough to see how students are growing their own nutritious food, and writing a new law that will help create similar programs nationwide.
Expediting, in less than 24 hours, a Princeton Borough resident’s passport and visa approvals, allowing her to make a scheduled flight to Africa. She was among 1,825 New Jerseyans whom I helped cut through red tape in their dealings with federal agencies.

Holt accomplishments Continued:
Touring Homasote, a Ewing manufacturer engaged in innovative research to succeed in today’s economy. Holt introduced bills to create new tax credits for research-intensive small businesses and the investors that fund them.
Visiting with Lawrence students, teachers, and staff at Ben Franklin Elementary School and Lawrence Intermediate School – among 23 local school visits in 2011.
Intervening after an IRS error delayed a Pennington resident’s receipt of a $3,500 tax refund. The money was promptly refunded with interest.
Visiting with West Windsor students to find new ways to prevent school bullying. Holt joined Sen. Lautenberg to introduce legislation that strengthens anti-harassment and anti-bullying programs at colleges.

Do you not have the insight to understand that many of those bills that help people in our district also help people in South Brunswick? Do you not understand that those bills also help people in the rest of New Jersey, the rest of the United States?

Well Holt has helped Signum Biosciences ( http://www.signumbiosciences.com/ ) get small business innovative research grants that helped them start up very near SB. He also has pushed the R&D Tax Credit Act which helps small business get through the early years where the client base is small. These aren't $12 dollar an hour jobs. They are high paid, high tech jobs that Holt has dedicated himself to bringing in to the district. He understands the need of our country in a post industrial/ manufacturing/ service economy to push for innovation in science and technology.

Maxwell Stock (Signum), (Zip code: 08553) $208 to OBAMA FOR AMERICA on 09/13/08
Wolanin, Peter M. Signum Biosciences/scientist $362 Rush Holt For Congress

Was against Medicare and Medicaid from day one and is still dead set on destroying those 2 programs.

I will vote for a GOPer when hell freezes over because the party is regressive and opposed to science. This is the party that does not accept human caused global warming and is all jiggy with Creationism and Intelligent Design. The GOP has serious doubts about Darwin's theory of evolution. I will not support a rabidly pro super rich party (even worse than the Democrats who have become too corporate as well). Yes, I am opposed to the GOP, especially the GOP of 2012. The GOP is opposed to me, I will reciprocate the favor.

I am RIGHT -- sadly, you are not right. The great majority of these right wing guys have no allegiance -- except to their masters. And their masters are not 'we, the people' even though we may have elected them -- their masters are the banksters and the corporatists.
If Mr. Beck were a moderate Republican on the order of Olympia Snowe, maybe. She really does listen. She really does think. And she has gotten in trouble with her Republican colleagues for bucking the party line because she does not always concur with their view on things.
But just from reading this article you can tell that Mr. Beck likely has more in common with the other Mr. Beck than with Rep. Snowe. Rep. Holt and President Obama are NOT anti-business. They are pro-fairness.
Mr. Beck speaks well of Governor Christie. He likes what the Governor has done. That in itself would be enough to make me question the wisdom of voting for him. Our governor has vilified public employees and unions, he is slowly strangling the public schools, and he chooses to enrich his friends at the expense of the rest of us.
Any police officer, any firefighter, any teacher, anybody who belongs to a union, anybody who cares about the education kids receive in New Jersey, anybody who cares about civility or fairness -- when they really take all of this into consideration, they will feel the same way

I'd vote for whatever person I thought would do a better job and represent their constituents better. I was really interested in what this Eric Beck had to say. I started feeling the guy a little and then he went all:
""We need to stop this class warfare we're seeing from the other side," he said. "It's un-American. We should be focused on trying to grow the economy and lifting all boats. It's interesting that the modern day Democratic Party is different from the prominent Democrat I worked with in former Sen. Paul Tsongas, who was a great advocate for the business community."
Are you serious? With all of the Tea Party clowns running around the country and causing a disruption for government and even their own party and he's still going to push all the blame on one side? Toss in the trickle down talk and his allegiance to business and I'm thinking this guy just sold me on anybody else. Republicans deserve just as much credit for dividing the social classes, and in many cases you can argue they have more of the blame for keeping the wealthy even more rich and the lowest even more poor. Sorry Eric. I gave you an honest chance and was hoping to like you, but you seem like one of the political clowns like Palin, Santorum, Corzine, and Obama.

Hear this loud and clear, Winston --
The people most responsible for trying to destroy our political and economic system are the banksters and the corporatists. People in the private sector who want the freedom to run unfettered over the rest of us in order to obtain short-term profit.
They are aided and abetted primarily by those in government who signed Grover Norquist's pledge. Most if not all Republicans, and some Democrats. And -- advertently or inadvertently -- by the Tea Party.
Lots of Tea Party members think they're doing a good thing, doing a patriotic thing, and they do not realize that they are being played by folks like the Koch brothers. Others know exactly what they are doing.

Rush Holt supports peace in the Middle East. That includes Israel. Look at the devastation that war brings to people. He does not want that devastation for Israel or for any other country!
The video you posted is from the Emergency committee for Israel. Here's who they are (see Wikipedia if you think I made it up).
"The Emergency Committee for Israel's Leadership is a right-wing 501(c)(4) political advocacy organization in the United States. The group’s board members include Weekly Standard editor William Kristol and former Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer, Republican Virginia congressman Scott Rigell, and conservative writer Rachel Abrams, wife of Elliott Abrams. Noah Pollak is its executive director."
Holt is supported by another Jewish organization, J Street.
"J Street is a nonprofit liberal advocacy group based in the United States whose stated aim is to promote American leadership to end the Arab-Israeli and Israel-Palestinian conflicts peacefully and diplomatically. It was founded in April 2008."

Wow. Anybody looking at that video will see what a sham it is. Listen just to the audio and it is fine. Makes sense. Those captions are just someone's venom coming out.
And all you have to do is look at their website to see that NJ Common Sense is another one of those organizations that use the standard Republican trick of taking the name of something we all believe in (Common Sense) and then turning it on its head!
Actually, when you look through the site, it could be an excellent guide for alerting us to candidates we should consider NOT voting for!

How can anyone support a congressman who is anti Israel, supports investment bankers over taxpayers and takes money from disgraced and corrupt companies?

Voted NO on limiting medical malpractice lawsuits to $250,000 damages. (May 2004)
• Voted NO on allowing reimportation of prescription drugs. (Jul 2003)
• Voted NO on small business associations for buying health insurance. (Jun 2003)
• Voted NO on capping damages & setting time limits in medical lawsuits. (Mar 2003)
• Voted NO on subsidizing private insurance for Medicare Rx drug coverage. (Jun 2000)
• Voted NO on establishing tax-exempt Medical Savings Accounts. (Oct 1999)
I applaud Holt on his votes, I agree with him. On the reimportation of drugs bill, there were other poison pills added to the bill that made it unacceptable. In any case, right wingers and most Gopers (a few Gopers are for it) are against reimportation of drugs.

So you applaud Holt fot limiting healthcare options, increasing premiums and increasing health taxes on American small business?
Your pro union bigotry is bizarre! His voting records proves he doesn't support job grwth or real healthcare reform.

Is there any elected official that you respect, and I mean that with all seriousness. Is it all or just some, or what... I don't think I've ever heard to talk about a person you respect or point to as a model.

Medical Savings accounts are great for the wealthy. They can stash many thousands in this TAX SHELTERED account. The poor and most of the middle class can barely survive from pay check to pay check. How are they supposed to put money into a medical savings accounts. Even if they could put $50 a week into the account ($2600) that would not last long with high medical expenses. Medical savings accounts are scams for the wealthy. They do litlle or nothing for the great mass of Americans.

So it's been 72 hours and the Holt supporters still cannot justify supporting him. I don't understand how left wing progressives can ignore the facts that holt is in the pocket of investment bankers, hedge fund managers and wealthy donors receiving corporate welfare.
I guess it's easier to attack the messenger than deal with reality.

Lets look at the facts about this cycle...
Frank Pallone Individual Contributions 47% PACs 52%
Rob Andrews Individual Contributions 57% PACs 43%
Rodney Frelinghuysen Individual Contributions 39% PACS 60%
Scott Garrett Individual Contributions 56% PACs 44%
Leonard Lance Individual Contributions 45% PACs 55%
Frank A. LoBiondo Individual Contributions 42% PACs 58%
Bill Pascrell Jr Individual Contributions 52% PACs 45%
Steven R. Rothman Individual Contributions 49% PACs 47%
Jon Runyan Individual Contributions 36% PACS 57%
Albio Sires Individual Contributions 48% PACs 52%
Chris Smith Individual Contributions 64% PACs 35%
Rush Holt Individual Contributions 68% PACs 30%
Holt receives more of his cash from individuals then any other NJ Congressman and the lowest % from PACs.And yes some individuals give Holt money who are bankers... in fact $4000 from a Bank of America employees. But the lack of PACs shows he is not a bought politician. I don't expect you to comprehend that, but wanted to put it out there in case someone who hadn't followed your constant misinformation about Holt.

Who cares what other congressman do...the issue is that Holt portrays himself as a man of the people when his donor list and voting record prove that he is nothing more than a dupe for big money donors and investment bankers.

Patrick it's OK...you can let your political beliefs get in the way of fairness, honesty and reality. From a personal standpoint I think you have a personality flaw that prevents you from challenging your beliefs when faced with facts that prove the exact opposite.
You refuse to answer my questions and you cannot justify your support for for Holt who is bankrolled by hedge fund managers and bankers, takes money and support an anti Jewish group and pays back his political donors with our tax dollars. Your only justification is that he is a Democrat.
Patrick
10:44 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2012
when did fairness, honesty and reality become subjective?
My only personality flaw is continuing to actually engage in this dysfunctional exchange.
Rush Holt and I have very similar politic... I asked you, who you admire. Who matches your politics. anyone? or are you just out there on an island. Maybe its time you actually answer a question.
Winston

Patrick read your last post....you prove your personality disorder that I commented on.
You and Holt agree that wealthy donors and investment bankers, many who dont even live in his district, should be controlling government rather than the constituents in his district?
Patrick
10:55 am on Sunday, March 11, 2012
Winston, the problem is that Holt's actual voting record doesn't back you up. He has been a huge proponent of regulation. Voted to allow shareholders to vote on pay etc etc etc so you can continue to say whatever you like, it is a free country, but its just not reality.
and I don't even know what your question is, but its irrelevant, and even if I did answer it, you wouldn't be satisfied.
as you can't even answer basic questions, so why would I even indulge you further.

Patrick, I wondered about that myself -- why was I continuing to engage in this discussion?
Part of the answer, I think, is that any undecided people who choose to read these posts will see the points that Winston and I am Right make against Rush Holt, and they will see the points that you and Joe and I make in support of him, and they will be able to judge for themselves.
Rob claimed that he had been open either way, and how his ideas had been affected by the article. middle of the road made some valid points and responded thoughtfully and courteously.
As I mentioned before, democracy by its nature is an imprecise and messy form of government. But it works if we allow it to. As Ben Franklin said, "You have a Republic -- if you can keep it!"
Winston

Morrigan well said...the only problem is that Holts supporters only reason for supporting him is that he is a Democrat. If he was Republican you and the other liberal dems would be screaming holy murder....instead you ignore the facts that he is a dupe for walls street, banks and rich donors.
I am still waiting for the answer to my questions.....

Thank you, Winston.
I will say that IF you think thoughtfulness, reason, intelligence, fairness and honesty are solely Democratic characteristics -- then yes, maybe you are right. But I think Olympia Snowe has those characteristics, and she is not a Democrat... Would I vote for her over Rush Holt? NO. His values are closer to mine than hers. But I would certainly vote for her over some of the other Democrats that are lawmakers in Washington!
I am generally not a Scripture-quoting individual, but it is Sunday and I think a paraphrase may be appropriate here (Luke 6 and Matthew 7):
Looking at the facts, I'd say most Republicans need to take the log out of their eye before berating the Democrats for the splinter in theirs.
That is an answer.
