Township Can't Confirm PSE&G Estimates

PSE&G said Saturday that they would have power back in East Brunswick by midnight tonight. The township says it can't firm if that's true.

Patch readers have expressed their skepticism about an announcement from PSE&G yesterday stating that power would be back throughout East Brunswick by midnight tonight.

Today, East Brunswick issued an announcement saying that they can’t confirm that the statement is true, and even Austin Kosik, Office of Emergency  Management Coordinator, doesn’t think it will happen, according to the statement.

On Saturday, PSE&G announced that it expects to have the remaining 3,500 customers without power in East Brunswick back online by midnight Sunday. Of the 15,250 PSE&G customers in East Brunswick, 14,250 were left without power by Hurricane Sandy. Middlesex County township's that the company will be focusing on this weekend are Edison, Piscataway, Woodbridge and East Brunswick.

However, many residents are skeptical and think it’s unlikely they will get power back tonight, especially given the sheer damage Hurricane Sandy did to the area.

"From what I have seen of damaged infrastructure (broken poles, missing or exploded transformers, shredded primary cables, etc.)…that haven even been touched yet…PSE&G is DREAMING about their 11/4 date,” said John Romano on Facebook.

According to PSE&G's outage map, between 2,000 and 5,000 East Brunswick resdients are without power right now.

Latest restoration estimates from PSE&G suggest it could still be another 2-3 days for some East Brunswick residents. http://www.pseg.com/pdf/PSE_G%20Workforce%20Schedule20121104%200600.pdf

I looked at the curent plan which looks diferent from yesterday's. Previous plan showed the actual dates. Now the plan has day 1 ,2,3. Does any body know what this means? What is day 1?. Can't get hold of anyone in PSE&G. Don't even want to waste time trying to talk to someome in the Township emergency coordination. They are unhelpful and simply rude.

I called the PSE&G's 800 number today. I enter my acct number and the message said that power will be restored by Friday November 9th. SO I really don't know what to expect. I don't know either what day 1 or 2 or 3 means? Very frustrating!!!!

There are goals and there are practical difficulties when you go through the process of fixing the problems and challenges at hand as you find out the scope of the damage. I give PSEG positive marks trying. Although it is easy for me to say as I skipped town on a busininess trip last Sunday so I did not suffer any inconveniences at all from the outside looking in. Slowly but surely power is being restored. That much I know.

You got that right. Not only have I escaped the wrath of Sandy, avoided the inconveniences of not having power in the house dark and cold, having to face gas ratioinging, with a refrigerator full of rotten food, I am on an island in the Caribbean working of all places.

Yes. I am completely calm and cool.

Rude does not describe the township emergency coordi action. There really is none and it seems to be bothering whoever answers their phone

If you expect a properly planned and coordinated emergency response from the township you have undue expectations. None is about what I'd expect. So i won't be surprised anyone answering the phone to feel like being bothered and being defensive, because they do not have an answer for your questions or demands whichever the case may be.

Mr mayor, please place police presence at the still affected blackout areas. Particularly by fern road and stage coach. Thank you.

Fern Road does not intersect Stage Coach first of all. Is there looting in Colonial Oaks?

Emily, as far as I know, 90 Neilson Street had power fully restored on Saturday evening.

Mr Chen, your comments lack insight and empathy. Let's be preemptive and plan with careful consideration. As most of us in the colonial oaks section are highly educated professionals and hardworking business people, let's not focus on pointing out map details that we are all aware of. I wouldn't know of any looting with the lights out anyway. Let's focus on safety, security, and peace of mind at this point.

I am just being realistic. The East Brunswick police is patroling the neighborhood as it does regularly using the patrol car. This has been proven very effective whether it is during normal times or in a unusual situation such as this. It is unrealistic and unreasonable to ask a police office to station at a fixed location paritcularly in a neighborhood known to be very safe just because there is no power. There are many more housholds in the same situation not having power as yours. You want the office to stand there or sit there in his patrol car all night while he can be much more effective covering many other locations in town. Think about your request. How many police officers do we have in town? Are you being reasonable?

think this is more about traffic safety...there's a stop sign for fern turning onto cranbury but cars are treating it like a 4-way stop and its very confusing, especially when cranbury is a 50mph road over there. all you have to do is put someone there to direct traffic during rush hours. no one is asking for 24-hr patrol.

"You want the office(r) to stand there or sit there in his patrol car all night while he can be much more effective covering many other locations in town."

Mr. Chen, I agree, however the EBPD has had two officers stationed just before the intersection of Ryders Lane and Dunhams Corner Road for at least 48 hours following the storm. As I understand there was a downed power line there, however the utility of two officers in two cars covering one downed line is questionable considering the extent of damage in town.

Fern starts or ends at old stage road
