Originally known as the Backstreets, the Bruce Springsteen cover band B Street Band was formed in Asbury Park in 1980 by musicians Will Forte and the late Bob Chipak. The band has opened for Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, entertained at the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, and played for graduating classes at Harvard and Princeton universities. On Wednesday, they played East Brunswick.

Hammarskjold students held the seventh-grade Track Meet on Wednesday, May 25, and Thurday, May 26, at the East Brunswick Public High School. The two day event included two competitions in one, a head-to-head competition between students, and competitions between the Hammarskjöld houses. Events included a ball throw, standing long jump, 50 and 100 yard dashes and a four person relay, with each student running 100 yards. Students practiced at Hammarskold and took the competition to the high school during the first truly warm days of the year.
Irwin students and staff held a school-wide assembly Thursday, May 26, to celebrate the arts through the integration of visual arts, music and dance. The project included participants from first through fifth grade, including fourth and fifth grade chorus members, the art enrichment club and a faculty choir made up of teachers and Principal Ron Lieberman. These "Buddies" don't realize the wonderful effect they have on their players. There was not a frown on the field Saturday morning during the East Brunswick Soccer Club's TOP Soccer program. TOP Soccer is designed to bring the game of soccer to boys and girls with special needs by pairing each with a “buddy” to assist in practicing and coaching. The Fields Sports Complex on Cornwall Road was the place to be Sunday. Kid Fest, sponsored by Magic 98.3 and Saint Peter’s University Hospital, featured live music, characters, a treasure hunt, clowns, face painting, magic, balloon animals, games, contests and much more. Kids also got a chance to learn sports such as lacrosse, soccer and more from professional instructors at the Fields Sports Complex.

The 22nd East Brunswick Community Day held Sunday at the Brunswick Square Mall included 60 area non-profit volunteer groups who set up shop to get the word out about what they do. On hand were local youth athletic clubs, Scouts and township departments, as well as the American Cancer Society, Middlesex County 4-H Clubs, the Oddfellows, veterans groups, a Greyhound adoption group and more.
Children of all ages had a great time Sunday when the Catskill Puppet Theater performed at the East Brunswick Public Library as part of the Phyllis Noar Puppetry Festival. Those who attended got to hear the tale of Sister Rain and Brother Sun. This musical nature-tale featured lots of audience participation and Brother Sun, a huge, talking sun face seven feet in diameter with movable mouth and eyes! Also visiting was Mother Nature, a grizzled old wise-woman covered with vines, Farmer McGreedy, a crafty old hillbilly, Little Bear and the beautiful, glistening Sister Rain.

Irwin School students faced of against teachers in a series of competitions Friday night at East Brunswick Public High School to see who would rule the court. The K-through second grade took on the teachers in a game of scooter hockey, while third through fifth-graders squared off in a game of volleyball. The program was part of the school's Positive Behavior Supports in Schools initiative, where students receive positive reinforcement for good behavior
Police Dogs from NJ Transit visited students at Hammarskjold School on Tuesday as part of the school's Positive Behavior Support in Schools program. The program encourages schools to find different ways to correct students in their behavior, and to get them to act in a more positive way toward their peers.
