World Party! Join the Short Story Discussion Group this Summer

Hit the beach with a short story this summer! World Party is a short story discussion group at the East Brunswick Public Library that focuses on authors and themes from diverse cultures.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. The next selection is the title story in YiYun Li’s award-winning A Thousand Years of Good Prayers. All are welcome to join, and copies of the story are available at the library’s information desk.

Some of the most popular books in the library’s world language collection are short stories, which prompted the idea for the program. Stories are in English, though translations into other languages can be provided when possible.

“Short stories are a great way to get in some quality reading,” said Jill D’Amico, adult services librarian. “They’re really well-crafted, and there’s little room for background and error - so much is packed into each one.”
Whether you’re too busy to finish a novel, or just want to be transported, this a program that will speak to you. The group, which meets every other month, is off to a promising start.

“The conversations we’re having are going in some really interesting directions,” said D’Amico.
