If you need to drive on Beekman Road tonight, don't be annoyed by its closure. It's for the salamanders.
Beekman Road between Church Lane and Davidson Mills Road will close at 6 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 26 and reopen at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.
It will again be closed at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.
The reason for the closure is to accommodate the annual migration of the spotted salamander.
Dave Moskowitz, president of the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission has blogged on Patch explaining the migration and its local significance. Read two recent blogs about the salamanders here, here and here.
Questions on the road closure can be directed to the East Brunswick Police Department's Special Operations Section at (732) 390-6969.
