East Brunswick Talks New Jersey's Dark Side

Township to host program on the real mastermind of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.

Beyond the modern day scandal of "bridge-gate," or the pop culture drama of HBO's The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, New Jersey has lesser known scandals to give it an extensive dark side through history.

The East Brunswick Historical Society will present the second of a five-part program on that history with New Jersey: The Dark Side. The next part in the series will focus on the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby.

Author Robert Zorn will speak on the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby and the secret shared with him by his father, who as a boy inadvertently witnessed his Bronx neighbor John Knoll conspire with Bruno Richard Hauptmann to kidnap the child, according to Zorn.

A graduate of Duke University and the Wharton Graduate School of business, Zorn currently resides in Montclair.

Zorn was also one of five authors invited by former First Lady Barbara Bush to speak at her Celebration of Reading Event at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas back in 2012.

At the previous discussion Marc Mappen, author of Prohibition Gangsters, There’s More to New Jersey Than the Sopranos and co-editor of the award-winning Encyclopedia of New Jersey, was the featured speaker.

The next program featuring the Lindbergh kidnapping will be held at 2 p.m. on  Jan. 19 at 78 Milltown Road in East Brunswick. For additional information call 732-249-3522.
