Free Summer Fun for Kids
Kids can beat the heat without beating up mom and dad's wallets.
With school out of session, it might be hard to find ways to spend time without staring at a computer or television screen all day. Check out these programs in between your beach days and ice cream stops!
Adventure through art –
The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum on the College Avenue campus of Rutgers-New Brunswick gives families free admission on the first Sunday of every month. The museum, which has collections ranging from Russian and Soviet art to American 19th century art, will offer fun family scavenger hunts between 12:30 and 4 p.m. At 1 and 2 p.m., tours of both children and adults are offered. Shows under the Stars -
Plays in the Park, located on 1 Pine Drive in Edison has a summer roster of shows all free for children under 12 years old. Each outdoor performance is staged by a cast of talented local performers that enthusiastically invite all viewers -- young and old -- to enjoy the plays and their rich history. This summer, the company will present Godspell, 3 Little Pigs in a Blanket, Annie, and Hairspray. See www.playsinthepark.com for more information.

The HUB Teen Center -
The city recreation department hosts a teen center that is free to all New Brunswick teens ages 13-19. All that is required of participant is registration. Located at the recreation building at 411 Joyce Kilmer Ave., the center is home to a myriad of offerings, including batting cages, a movie screening room, a computer lab, a game room, a golf range, a gym, and a sound editing studio.
