Got a Green Thumb? Enter the EARTH Center's Garden Field Day Contest

It's part of a day devoted to all things in nature, and it's free for the whole family.

Got a problem with your garden you can't quite solve? Want to show off your successful gardening efforts from the summer? Or are you just looking for a fun and free outdoors activity you can share with the entire family?

The EARTH Center is the place you'll want to be this Saturday.

The Center, home to the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County, is hosting a free Garden Field Day from 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 20, and they are inviting anyone who needs help with a gardening problem to come by with some samples and get a diagnosis from the county's Master Gardeners group.

Homeowners who have been cultivating their gardens all season long are invited to bring the results of their green thumbs to enter into a 'Greatest of the Garden' competition. The biggest, the smallest, and the oddest of garden produce will be judged and the winners will receive awards for their mastery.

The joint will be jumping with activities, including a "Jersey Fresh Taste Test" of produce, green living displays, live music, and tours of various gardens such as the vegetable display, "Circle of Thyme" herb garden, rain garden, and a newly expanded Butterfly House.
