Independence Day Weekend Roundup

Events, festivals and fireworks in the area this weekend.

Independence Day weekend is upon us and there's no shortage of events and fireworks in the area this weekend.  Check out Patch's roundup for everything you need to know to celebrate July 4th in style.

Saturday, July 2

South Brunswick Independence Day Festival5 p.m. , 195 Major Rd, Monmouth Junction.  South Brunswick’s second annual Independence Day Festival and fireworks display will take place at Crossroads South Middle School, located at Major Road and Kingston Lane.

The event will kick-off with a variety of shows including:

  • A Disc Jockey on stage from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • 12 vintage Corvettes
  • Pony rides from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • A wandering magician from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a magic show at 7 p.m.
  • A Free Reptile Show from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • A dunk tank
  • The Fire Company’s Water Works
  • Two Free moonwalks
  • Tables for face painting, sand art, and a spin art.

There will also be at least 10 food vendors offering everything from pizza and Oriental barbecue to cotton candy and ice cream. The highlight of the event will occur at about 9 p.m. when the sky will light up with the fireworks spectacular. In case of rain, the festival will be held Sunday, July 3.

Sunday, July 3

New Brunswick Fireworks and Concert7 p.m. , Memorial Parkway, New Brunswick. A free concert by Rumba Con Son will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then The Fins will perform from 8 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. followed by the fireworks.  According to the New Brunswick recreation website, handicap parking will be available behind the stage and near the Rutgers Boat House, in Boyd Park. Additional free parking will be at the Public Safety parking deck at the corner of Commercial Avenue and Neilson Street, a block away from Boyd Park. Call 732-745-5125 for more information.

Highland Park's "Fireworks in the Park," 4 p.m. Donaldson Park. Performances begin at 4 p.m. with Danny Kim and special guest Kim Adlerman.  At 5:30 p.m. local talent will perform and at 7 p.m. area favorties The Nerds will begin their set. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. There will be music, activities, demos, food and beverages. Monday, July 4

Milltown Independence Day Parade and Celebration6 a.m. 39 Washington Avenue, Milltown. The borough has a great line up of activities to celebrate Independence Day. The festivities kick off at 6 a.m. with a fishing derby then continue through the day with a parade, live music, vendors, fireworks, food and more.  The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Van Liew Avenue and continues down Main Street to East Lincoln and then to JFK Boulevard, ending at Violet Terrace. Festivities will continue from noon to 3 p.m. at Borough Park, with rides for the kids, ice cream, food, music and more. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.
