Rescue Squad Installs New Officers

The East Brunswick Rescue Squad held it's annual dinner and granted several life membership awards.

When the East Brunswick Rescue hosted its annual dinner for the installation of its 2013 officers, life membership was awarded to Fred Beisser, Karen Deignan and Sandy Roth. Life Membership requires at least 10 years on the squad and a minimum of 4,500 hours of dedicated service.

Last year Beisser spent 962 hours with the Rescue Squad on standby for the Township. Had he received the $20/hour going-rate for paid EMTs, he would have earned $18,400 last year alone. In his 10 years as a member, he donated over 9,200 hours.

This year Beisser has stepped into the Chief Trustee position, Deignan will remain the Squad’s Corresponding Secretary, Roth is this year’s President. John Hosie jumps up from Assistant Captain to Captain.

One of the Squad’s cadets was highly praised for the excellent CPR she gave the patient during one of the two CPR saves the Squad achieved last year.

The East Brunswick Rescue Squad is a volunteer organization existing entirely on donations. Members are required to have the same training and certification as EMTs who are paid for their time. Some members are still in high school or college, some have jobs or professions, some are retired, some continue their training and become paramedics, nurses, or doctors, but all share the common goal: to serve the sick and the injured in the Township.
