Contact: Jeffrey Bicsko, principal,  (732) 254-8700

East Brunswick Tech will hold its second annual Inspire 5K race on Sunday, May 4, in memory of Paul Chrzaszcz, a 2006 graduate of the school who drowned in 2012 at the age of 24.

Last year, more than 300 runners participated in the first race, which raised about $6,000 toward a scholarship fund in honor of Chrzaszcz.

The race will start at 9 a.m. at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road, with registration beginning at 7:30.

Runners can register online at register.compuscore.com. Early registration is $20; on the day of the race, it will be $25. The first 500 registrants are guaranteed T-shirts.

A lifelong South Amboy resident, Chrzaszcz was a member of Mechanicsville Hose Company in South Amboy and Melrose Hose Company in Sayreville. He had attended Monmouth University.

A baseball standout of East Brunswick Tech, Chrzaszcz’s No. 7 jersey has been retired.

East Brunswick Tech is part of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District, the first county vocational school district in the nation, which has seven schools on five campuses. The district is marking its centennial in 2014.
