St. Mary's Plans Daycare, Sunday School for Old Weber School

Renovations on the old school began in fall.

The is hoping that renovations to the old Weber School are done by the summer.

The church purchased the building in 2007 and began renovations in 2010. Approval from the Zoning Board of Adjustment to run a daycare and religious school was granted in 2009. The building is located at the intersection of Hardenburg Lane and Riva Avenue.

“It’s going to be a multiple use building,” said church member Rafik Wahba. “Part of it will be an annex for the Sunday school and Youth Fellowship activities, and the other portion is for a daycare center for toddlers and children.”

Wahba said a process known as “pointing the brick” has been used on the building’s exterior to refurbish the mason work, making it look almost like new. However, the inside of the building is being completely redone and will get a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system, new plumbing, wiring, windows and other amenities.

“We’re gutting it out completely, keeping the outside façade,” he said. “We pointed out the brick to make it look like new, we have replaced the roof, have cleaned all the asbestos and have a clean bill of health from the state EPA.” ill of clean health from the state (Environmental Protection Agency).”
