The Kalmyks of Russia

Since 1951, a small community of Mongolian people called the Kalmyks have been part of the ethnic diversity of Howell, N.J. Learn about their long and colorful history and the pivotal role they played in the history of Russia during a presentation at the East Brunswick Public Library at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Join Nicolas Burlakoff of Rutgers University as he shares the history of this little known group. Burlakoff is the primary field worker for the New Jersey Folk Festival’s Kalmyk Heritage Presentation at Rutgers University and is sure to have interesting insights to share about this community.
