Beech Woods Park will be the backdrop to the movie, “How to Train Your Dragon,” when the South Brunswick Recreation Department, along with movie sponsor , host a free Movie in the Park Friday from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Beech Roads Park is located at 137 Beekman Road in Monmouth Junction, between Route 1 south and Route 27 south.
The movie will be shown on a giant blow-up screen, thanks to a donation by Brunswick Urgent Care, said Jennifer Petri, program coordinator with the recreation department. The movie will be shown at dusk, or approximately at 8:30 to 8:45 p.m.
Movie guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and picnic in the park, Petri said. Bug spray is also suggested.
“We are expecting 100 to 150 people,” Petri estimated about Friday’s turnout.
Before the movie starts, there will be games for kids, including a tug of war, hula hoop game and an egg toss. Brunswick Urgent Care will provide juice boxes for the kids, and there will be a DJ with music for the kids, Petri said.
“How to Train Your Dragon,” a 2010 beautiful Dreamworks animation movie, is a tale about a misfit Viking teenager who, despite local lore about the fierceness of the local dragon population and the Viking community’s hatred of them, befriends one and changes how the community interacts with the mythic animals.
In the case of inclement weather, call after 5 p.m. on July 15 at 732-329-4000, ext. 7686, to check whether the movie will be moved to its rain location at the South Brunswick Community Gym in Woodlot Park at 124 New Road.
