Patch's Night at the Movies

Patch and Mega Movies is offering movie fun, and discounts on the latest Hollywood hits

If you want to see some of Hollywood's newest blockbusters, and save some money while you're at it, then Patch Night at the Movies is just the ticket you're looking for.

On March 15, Patch and are teaming up to give local movie lovers a $4.50 discount off the admission price to three movies: "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," "Act of Valor" and "A Thousand Words." All you have to do is sign up for a Patch newsletter at the theater, located in the , 755 Route 18 in East Brunswick, and see a showing of any those three movies starting between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and you're on your way.

"The Lorax" is the hit animated adaptation of Seuss' 1971 environmentally themed tale. It's about a boy named Ted (voiced by Zac Efron) who lives in the town of Thneed-ville where there's no nature, the tress of made of plastic, and residents need to buy air from Mr. O'Hare in order to breathe.

Ted has a crush on Aubrey (Taylor Swift), who dreams of seeing a real tree. So Ted ventures beyond Thneed-ville's steel barriers to meet the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who shares the story of how Thneed-ville was once a wondrous forest, filled with Truffula trees.

Many years ago, the Once-ler made his fortune by using the tops of the Truffula trees to make "Thneeds." By cutting down that first tree, he summoned the Lorax (Danny Devito) who speaks for the trees, and tries to protect the forest. The Once-ler agrees to make his Thneeds by taking the soft tuft of the Truffula trees without chopping them down, but he soon finds it easier (and more profitable ) to cut down the trees, decimating the forest and setting the stage for Mr. O'Hare's vision of Thneed-ville.

The movie is directed by Chris Renaud (who directed "Despicable Me") and Kyle Balda from a screenplay by Ken Daurio (who also adapted Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who"). It also features original music by John Powell. "The Lorax" is rated PG for "brief and mild language" and runs 86 minutes.

If you've already seen "The Lorax" (and based on its first weekend box office gross, a lot of people did), then you may want to see "One Thousand Words," the newest comedy starring Eddie Murphy.

Murphy became a star playing fast-talking characters in hits like "48 Hours," "Beverly Hills Cop" but he has the tables turned on him as he plays Jack McCall, a slick Hollywood literary agent who gets what he wants, usually by lying.

When Jack lies to a New-Age master named Dr. Singa (Cliff Curtis) by promising to publish his book, the guru magically places a tree in Jack's yard. For every work Jack utters, the tree loses a leaf and when it runs out of leaves, the guru tells him, he will die.

This leads to Jack trying to maintain his career and his relationship with Caroline (Kerry Washington) while saying as few words as possible. "One Thousand Words" is rated PG-13 for sexual situations including dialogue, language and some drug-related humor and has a running time of 91 minutes.

Action fans can take in "Act of Valor," which stars real, active U.S. Navy SEALs in a fictionalized version of an actual SEALs operation. The mission involves a mission to rescue a CIA operative, which leads to the SEALs uncovering a plot that threatens the world's security.
