In business for over 70 years, Karl’s Appliance will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. to mark the official opening of its sixth designer showroom in New Jersey, located at 251 Route 18 south in East Brunswick. Owner Dan Schwartz said the company renovated two store fronts into one larger facility for the new Karl's location.
“We’re taking the former Gap store, and the other was a bagel shop next to it, and making it all one large area,” said Schwartz in a prior interview last year. “We sell major appliances and grills, so what will happen is a new floor is going in and around the perimeter area will be kitchen vignettes that have different cabinet styles.”
Karl's Appliance designer showrooms offer thousands of appliances with plenty of color choices and finishes, from basic washer and dryer combinations to complete customized professional kitchens. With locations in Paramus, Fairfield, Madison, Orange and Sparta, Karl's has been looking for a seventh site since it’s Perth Amboy location closed two years ago. Schwartz said Route 18 provides an ideal location for the chain's newest footprint.
“We’ve been looking for a space in the Middlesex County area, trying to find a good spot to suit our needs and to help the market,” he said. “We found this location. It faces Route 18 and despite the bad economy, we’re making an investment coming to town.”
The grand opening celebration will be held on Sept. 19 starting at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast and tour, followed by the ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m.
