The new location is owned by the husband and wife team of Joe and Denise Biondi, both longtime supporters of School of Rock.  Denise Biondi is a former scientist at Hoffman La Roche and was quite the guitar player in her teenage years.  She was introduced to the program in 2005, when Joe’s brother, Mark Biondi, joined the program-Mark is currently the VP of Marketing.

The husband and wife loved the mission of School of Rock, as did their son, who has been interning and teaching the program for the past five years.

“School of Rock is a terrific way to inspire the community of East Brunswick with music,” said Denise.  “The program has had incredibly positive effects on our family and we want to introduce the great impact that school of Rock can have to other families in East Brunswick.”

The school’s music director is Rich Scannella, who currently plays drums in Jon Bon Jovi’s solo project.  A third generation drummer who started playing when he was 9 years old, Scannella has toured, performed and/or recorded with legendary artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Neal Schon (Journey), Sammy Hagar (Van Halen), Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), and Gene Cornish (The Rascals).

He is also currently a member of Jon Bon Jovi’s band The Kings of Suburbia.

School of Rock uses a proprietary performance-based curriculum that teaches students to play rock music in a unique and interactive way. There are weekly individual lessons on guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals along with weekly group sessions with seasonal performances.
