Wonderland Smoke Shop Open on Route 18

Tell us what you think of the new Wonderland Smoke Shop and Body Jewelry.

The Wonderland Smoke Shop and Body Jewelry opened in East Brunswick in June.

While the East Brunswick Patch hasn’t been able to get over for a story yet, here are a few photos of the store.

According to the store’s website, the shop is the owners’ fifth, with locations in Freehold, Greenbrook, Hasbrouck Heights and Lawrenceville. It bills itself as a novelty shop with an inventory ranging from glass water pipes, smoking accessories, body jewelry and more.

The store is located at 272 Route 18. Hours are listed as "11:30ish to 9ish" Monday through Saturday, and "noonish and 6ish" Sundays.

Drop in and tell us what you think!

Another gritty, low end shop along Route 18. And people complain about White Castle?

What message is East Brunswick sending to young people? From looking at the website, it is very obvious that these accessories are also used for illegal drugs. Who are they kidding! This is disgraceful.

Wow, what a great addition. Let's just put a medicinal marijuana store next to it and a strip club on the other side. I'm glad the store is open at 11:30ish....I wouldn't want to wake up any stoner employees any earlier since they might not give their Rhodes Scholar patrons the correct information about the newest bong. I used to have pride when I told people I lived in East Brunswick. Those feelings are starting to erode.

And you had pride in what? The "Hot Sheet" Motel with the tower that was near Edgeboro Road, the six mattress stores or the skeevy Flea Market? At least the "Head Shop" is new. I would love to see quality stores, but I think our demographics lean more to the Hooter's and Walmart side of things.

I think we need stores that speak to our better natures rather than our vices. We now have the "Wondedrland", and "Montreal" smoke shops plus our own check cashing store. I recently had the displeasure, as a Letter Carrier, of delivering full page adds, in Edison for a new pawn shop. I think these stores say a lot about us, our values, the direction of our economy and the country in general.

Yes, I'm starting to agree with you about where our demographics are now leaning. I moved here a little over a decade ago and was coming from another town in Middlesex County. I always thought of East Brunswick as upper-middle class with nice neighborhoods and great schools...nothing really run down or backwoods. Watching Rt. 18 develop new business locations while other shopping plazas have become decrepit and eyesores over time was puzzling. I thought he Golden Triangle debacle was a new low point with lawsuits over what was going to happen to it....then we decided to put in a Wal-Mart. Let's just go all out like Sayreville and put in some clubs with shiny poles for the outsiders to feel more at home. I agree that bringing in these businesses is better than $0 revenue, but East Brunswick isn't the shiny place I thought it was when I moved here. Not sure if it was my outsiders perspective of not seeing the warts when I moved here, or if it really has gone down a few pegs, or a combination of both. There still are many things I love about the town though, but most of it revolves around my kids and what is available to them.

Rob, I totally agree with you. Even though it will probably ignored, I wrote a letter to the planning board of how Rt. 18 has turned into a commercial wasteland. When I moved here over twenty years ago, there we had several higher end businesses, which have since relocated to Princeton. The planning board has shown that it really doesn't care about what the East Brunswick citizens want.

....does EB have a "town motto"? If not...perhaps it can be, "Just Like Sayreville....But With Higher Taxes"

Contact you States Representatives. When they receive complaints about smoke shops dealing drug paraphernalia they will contact the D.E.A. who can shut the stores down at any time for selling glass pipes and bongs as those items are illegal for sale under federal law. You can also contact the Mayor's office which handled similar complaints in Raleigh years ago and coordinated with D.E.A. to close every head shop in our town.
Michael B. August 10, 2012 at 10:24 PM
Glass waterpipes and Glass smoking pipes labeled and/or sold for tobacco use only are 100% legal in the united states and the D.E.A. has nothing to do with it. Please be informed before you spew BS on the net

funny there are no smoke shops in sayreville yet there are 2 and possibly a 3rd going in on rt 18 in east brunswick....

Wow, what an awful addition to Route 18. And seriously, there is a check cashing place in EB now? I grew up in EB and lived there for 25+ years. My parents are still in the old neighborhood and it breaks my heart to see what has happened to my old hometown. I see based via NJ Monthly, EB schools are barely in the top 100 anymore. That's a big change from my days.
Ed T August 11, 2012 at 12:17 AM
I used to have immense pride in saying I was from EB (late 80's as a kid and early 90's while in college). Now, I mention EB as a case study of what towns shouldn't do or be like.

Wow...so much hate for harmless smoke shops, but the 5 or so liquor stores obviously do not lead to deviant behavior of any kind. How hypocritical. Everyone knows weed is illegal because of politics and money, and not because of any danger to people or society. I thought East Brunswick residents were better educated and informed than this. So sad.

So funny how blind people are to the truth just because they don't have the access to some of the things other states do. So does anybody on here even know that the marijuana law in nj has been passed for a longgg time now? There actually is a medical marijuana dispensary in montclaire , nj opening any month now. When the streets and perscriptions are filled with different assortments of marijuana edibles, concentrates, etc instead of hard drugs that turn people to addicts, tear apart families, and leave people dead from overdose or adverse side effects everyday..maybe then your eyes will truly be open to the truth..either way there is absolutely nothing you can do about it becuase you were lied to your whole life about the misconception of marijuana and made to believe from the time you were little kids that it was a class one drug right up next to crack and heroine..If your mind is still this misdated with information do your research, gain some knowledge and accept the benefits of this god given CANCER CURING//PAIN RELIEVING//ANXIETY REDUCING//DEPRESSION LIFTING//PEACE BRINGING plant.
William Swartz October 04, 2012 at 10:02 PM
And in a state where medical marijuana is just starting to be accepted i think a smoke shop is where it's at in terms of business.
Tanyaaa M November 25, 2012 at 01:53 AM
It's just a simple smoke shop. You people making it seem like its some public whore house or something. Jesus calm down.
Martin Spielman November 26, 2012 at 01:26 AM
Smoking is bad for the health so why wouldn't people oppose it? Oh, and then there's that bikini clad mannequin top stuck in the other smoke shop window that's really classing up my end of 18!. I think this is entire smoke shop issue is very ironic in light of the fact that the township recently cancelled the DARE program..
Martin Spielman December 18, 2012 at 10:35 PM
Please show me any scientific data that shows that marijuana "Cures cancer." Either everybody else has been missing something...or you're smoking the wrong thing.
Martin Spielman December 18, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Ellen, you seem to be plagiarizing William. Please think of your own foolishness. In the mean time perhaps you can also go and look for any scientific proof of the "cancer curing" properties of marijuana.
