What are the career choices for biology or microbiology graduates? One attractive choice is the Medical Laboratory scientist or MLS, which is a clinical laboratory position. Biology and microbiology graduates can take a certified exam by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). This exam will test the knowledge in Microbiology, Chemistry (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids etc), Blood bank, Urinanlysis, Hematology and immunology. Passing this test require good preparation because the questions are based on clinical lab testing and some are on basic science.

NJ labs doesn’t require ASCP certification, but NY does with some of the other states. Having a certification in NJ will definitely help to get a job faster (and in better labs).
