Democratic Party Reacts to Stahl Party Switch

Township Dem chair Ed Luster has accused Mayor David Stahl of "broken promises" to friends and supporters.

East Brunswick Democratic Committee Chairman Ed Luster issued the following statement in regards to Mayor David Stahl's recent announcement of his intent to leave the Democratic party and run for Senate as a Republican:

"After learning of mayor Stahl's switching parties to run for the Senate seat vacated by Sen. Buono, I recalled several conversations with the mayor during the last 12 months, including one at a well attended Democratic committee meeting where the mayor stated that he was and will always be a Democrat and had no intentions of seeking any other office except that of mayor.

I also recall his promises last year to me and others when he was seeking our support to run for re-election as mayor on the Democratic ticket. At that time he confirmed that he was a Democrat and promised that he would not switch parties after the election.
