EB Bears Take Top Win in Hockey Championships

Submitted by coach Mark Richman

The East Brunswick Bears high school hockey team played the spring season in the Woodbrige Spring Challenge league and won the Championship game vs. St. Joe's (Metuchen) a private school.

East Brunswick had a 4-3 record Vs. St. Joe's who was undefeated during the regular season scoring 70 goals for and only gave up one goal against.

East Brunswick was out shot 42-23 during the game but neither goalie would give up a goal.

With five seconds left in the game, East Brunswick's Jonathan Turner had a breakaway down the right side and gets a shot off. St. Joe's goalie makes the save and the rebound goes to the far right where EB's Corey Lasko had a one timer (shot) to which St. Joe's goalie made another beautiful save.

The puck then rebounds into the high slot area right to EB's Alex Richman. Alex shoots and scores to win the game with only 1.1 second remaining on the clock.

It was as if the East Brunswick won the Stanley Cup the way the players celebrated, a great game from a great team!

East Brunswick's Ice Hockey team has been competing for six years in Wooodbridge's Spring Challenge league an finally came away as Champions!

Evan Dooley was in net for the Shut Out and had a great game.

This happened June 22nd the same weekend as EBHS graduation so it was especially sweet for the graduating seniors!
