Experts Recommend Great Summer Reads

Librarians at the East Brunswick Public Library have been sharing some of their favorites reads for the summer. Here's a few more that you might enjoy over your summer vacation. Thanks to librarian Megan Doyle for these recommendatinos!

The Summer of the Bear by Bella Pollen

Accident, murder or suicide? It's the question that plagues the family of Nicky Fleming after the British diplomat falls off the roof of his embassy in West Germany in 1980. Equal parts spy novel and family drama, The Summer of the Bear tells the story of Fleming's grieving widow and three children during the months they spend in exile on a remote Scottish island, where a domesticated bear, having escaped from a circus wrestler, has also found himself marooned.

Rin Tin Tin: the life and the legend by Susan Orlean

This deeply moving book tells the story of Lee Duncan and the German shepherd puppy he rescued from a World War I battlefield. Rin Tin Tin was a silent movie star, a talking movie star and a television star. A deeply moving and beautifully told story.

Pineapple Grenade by Tim Dorsey

The latest adventures of Serge A. Storms and his sidekick Coleman. Serge and Coleman are, as usual, traveling around Florida in search of the most obscure Florida tourists attractions. What happens when Serge, Florida’s favorite psychopath, decides to become a spy?  Come along for the ride and enjoy the hilarity.

The Passage by Justin Cronin

After a military experiment goes very wrong, only a six year old girl can save the world from a man-made virus. This is a thought provoking, terrifying, and immensely entertaining read.

Charlie Hardie trilogy by Duane Swierczynski

Explosive pulp thriller series from cult crime fiction sensation and Marvel Comics scribe Duane Swierczynski.
