Heated Comfort Stations at Chittick, St. Mary's

St. Mary's on Riva and Chittick School are open to the public. School is canceled Thursday and Friday. Municipal offices are closed Thursday.

East Brunswick Township Mayor David Stahl, Township Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Austin Kosik and Deputy Chief William Krause Jr., the East Brunswick Director of Public Safety announced the opening of Comfort Stations in East Brunswick.

These facilities will offer township residents a heated environment. These will not be shelters and are not meant for any type of long-term housing. Please do not expect the provision of any type of refreshments, said the announcement.

The first Comfort Station will be located at Chittick School, located at 5 Flagler St. This facility will be open 24 hours a day beginning at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 31.

The second Comfort Station will be at St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church located at 433 Riva Ave. This facility will be open every day, beginning Thursday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For those residents who choose to remain at home, here are some safety tips. Due to the risk of fire, please do not use candles for lighting. If you are using a generator, be aware they omit deadly carbon monoxide gas. The generator must be outside and not in close proximity to any air intakes to the home. Do not place a running generator in the home or a garage, even if there is ventilation.

Township officials are working aggressively with the power companies to restore power.

Finally, all municipal offices will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 1.

East Brunswick Schools also announced that it would be closed for the rest of the week, Thursday and Friday.
