Holocaust Remembrance at the Library

Michael Kesler shared his story about the Holocaust, Thursday at the library.

The East Brunswick Public Library hosted a Holocaust Remembrance event Thursday, April 11, during which music and poetry accompanied a talk given by survivor Michael Kesler.

Welcoming remarks were made by Paul Winkler, Executive Director of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education followed by the keynote address given by Kessler, a Holocaust survivor. There was then a musical interlude by Dr. Tamara Freeman, who conceived and executed the country’s first Holocaust music education curriculum for students in grades K-12.  Closing remarks were made by Jacob Solomon Berger, an author of Holocaust history and translator of Yizkor Books. There will be a question and answer session immediately following the program.

The Library used he occasion to showcase new additions to its Holocaust Memorial Collection, established in 1983 with a major contribution from the East Brunswick Jewish Center, Yad Vashem Committee, chaired by East Brunswick resident Karl Kaplan.

This premier Holocaust Memorial Collection was established at the library with the understanding that every resident would have the opportunity to study and learn about this most painful chapter of history.
