House of Cupcakes Crew Talks Sweets and Selling a Brand

House of Cupcakes owners Ruthie and Ron Bzdewka and business partner Steve Mandrell discussed the House of Cupcakes brand on Thursday night at the library.

House of Cupcakes owners Ron and Ruthie Bzdewka and business partner Steve Mandrell appeared at the East Brunswick Public Library on Thursday night to discuss their cupcake business and hand out cupcake samples to a large crowd.

House of Cupcakes opened its East Brunswick location in June at the Summerhill Square Shopping Center. The cupcake bakery's flagship location is in Princeton, and they recently opened a location in Bronx, N.Y.

In addition to their success at their locations, House of Cupcakes is a past victor in Food Network's Cupcake Wars competition

The Bzdewkas met Mandrell when they operated a Party City store, a business franchised by Mandrell.

The House of Cupcakes team works daily to present the "best possible product imaginable," by tasting the products of their competitors, relying on the tastes and input of their customers, and focusing on making all of their products as strong as they can be, Mandrell said.

The cupcake bakery has started offering cookies, and is also developing a selection of "outrageous brownies," he said.

Gourmet doughnuts are also in the works for their Bronx location, he said.

Despite the variation, cupcakes will remain the bakery's main offering, he said.

"We will not lose focus," he said.

Mandrell said that East Brunswick was chosen as a location for House of Cupcakes due to the Route 18 corridor, as well as the prevalence of families in the area.

House of Cupcakes got the last available lease in Summerhill Square, a location that they are pleased with, as the businesses there are doing well, he said.

"That center has been an incredible shopping center," he said.
