Sammy, a Redtick-Coonhound mix is a certified therapy dog who, along with his owner, Nancy Turner of Somerset, visits patients at Saint Peter's University Hospital. His volunteer work at Saint Peter's, along with visits to special education classes and senior centers has earned him a spot in the New Jersey Veterinary Medical ASsociation's Hall of Fame.    

Jahmell Crockam, the man convicted of murdering Lakewood police officer Cristopher Matlosz, was sentenced at the Ocean County Justice Complex on Thursday to life without parole.

Vice President Joe Biden was the guest of honor at a Democratic Party fundraiser in support of Sen. Robert Menendez's re-election campaign at the Morris Township home of Phillip Sellinger and his wife, Barbara. Tickets for the invitation-only event were $1,000.

Corzine Ordered MF Global Customer Funds to Be Moved, Memo Says

Jon S. Corzine, MF Global Holding Ltd.'s chief executive officer, gave "direct instructions" to transfer $200 million from a customer fund account to meet an overdraft in one of the brokerage's JP Morgan Chase & Co. accounts in London, according to an email sent by a firm executive. [NJ.com]

A 48-year-old Princeton massage therapist was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact against a 16-year-old victim on Feb. 16, but the incident was only made public Friday.

Port Authority Ordered to Reinstate Toll-Free Passes for Retirees

'Pink Slime' Fears Send NJ Supermarkets Scurrying

A campaign against a ground beef filler, known by the derogatory nickname "pink slime," continues to put supermarkets through the grinder. On Friday, Wegmans Food Markets and Aldi became the latest markets to say they will no longer sell ground beef containing known in the industry as "lean, finely textured beef." [Asbury Park Press]

Two brothers who grew up on the campus of the Delbarton School where their father was a teacher filed a lawsuit Tuesday, claiming the Catholic School and St. Mary's Abbey failed to stop alleged sexual abuse.

Tina Kraus was named Hopatcong's first woman police captain Wednesday night. Kraus, a 20-year member of the Hopatcong police force, was promoted from lieutenant, a post she had held since 2004.

Christopher Page, the Bayville resident being sought in connection with a stabbing at the ShopRite supermarket there, was caught by police in Toms River. Page, 34, of Galleon Court in Bayville, was taken into custody Thursday in downtown Toms River, and charged with attempted murder, according to Lt. Anthony Chiorazzi of the Berkeley Township Police Department.

Accomplice in Synagogue Attacks had Blueprint

The 19-year-old man charged in connection with a series of anti-Semitic attacks on area synagogues in Bergen County had a blueprint of a school in Camden County marked for another attack and labeled “Project Anarchy,” according to a report on NorthJersey.com.



A local Muslim community leader has asked Teaneck’s Board of Education to add two school days off for Muslim religious observances.  said he wants the district to close on two holidays called Eids.
