Ryders Lane Closed Between Tices and Cotters

Transformer problems and traffic signal issues mean the road will closed until repairs can be done.

The Milltown Police Department is advising commuters to avoid the area of Ryders Lane between Tices and Cotters lanes.

The area is closed due to a traffic signal issue, caused by a transformer problem.

PSE&G is advising that a new transformer is needed to fix the problem.

This is the most bizarre explanation I've ever heard: they have at least 8 police cars, plus signs taking people all the way to Harts lane. Why would they do this rather than having one car at the intersection directing traffic? Very strange.

Transformers can release PCBs, dangerous toxins and if that possibility exists, they need to keep people away. What concerns me is that this is at least the 3rd transformer problem/fire/explosion in less than a week in Middlesex county. Wonder if Sandy's damage had anything to do with it?
