Rain Floods Local Roads, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Flood Watch Issued for Entire State

Watch in effect through 9 p.m. with potential for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a statewide Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m. tonight, with the main threat expected to be flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Already, portions of Summerhill Road in Spotswood and East Brunswick have been closed due to flooding.

The NWS calls for the potential for flash flooding into later this evening. According to the NWS, low pressure will move along a stationary front in the Mid-Atlantic region this afternoon into this evening.

The resulting rainfall may yield in excess of two inches in less than an hour. Additional storms may result in flash flooding through much of the state, with rain leaving heavily travelled highways and urban areas especially vulnerable to flooding, according to the NWS.

Residents are urged to take precaution to prepare for possible flooding.
