Team to Honor Silver Bullets Founder

The Central New Jersey Silver Bullets is looking for players to play on a U11 summer select boys team.

The Silver Bullets Soccer Club wants to honor one of its founders, but it needs a few good players to do it.

The club is looking for boys who want to play on a U11 summer select team created in honor of founding member Jeremiah “Jerry” Forest, who died Oct. 21, 2011 at his home.

The team will play in two tournaments, the Central Jersey Invitational on July 14 and July 15, and MAPS Caps on July 21 July 22. The team will be coached by Jerry’s longtime friend, Corrado Carbone, and assisted by Anthony Truppi. The team is looking for a goalie and one or two field players.

Jerry played soccer well into his adult life and then retired to coaching and enjoying his children’s soccer successes. He was the director of Sayreville Soccer for many years, coached several teams at CNJSB and was assistant coach at St. Mary’s/Cardinal McCarrick High. Jerry Forrest was the type of man who would not leave a room until he spoke to everyone in it. He was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him. Jerry said it well while he coached “soccer is like life it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon, enjoy the game.”

Surviving are his beloved wife of 18 years, the former Diane Howarth; his beloved children, Mairead and Conor at home, Jerry of the Bronx, John of Cranford, Ellen Walsh and her husband Noel of Yonkers N.Y.; his brother, Neilie and his wife Kate; and his sister Ellen Cremin and her husband Michael all of Ireland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was an accomplished soccer athlete who never lost his love of the game

As his daughter Mairead said at the church services, “My father was the type of man who would not leave a room until he spoke to everyone in it. He would make many new friends and leave with some new enemies.”

Jerry always spoke his mind and had a passion and love for God, family, friends and soccer. Jerry helped many people and was a positive influence to young men and women. Jerry Forrest was quick to point out that in this day of wanting to win and having your child play for what people perceive to be the top team your children lose out on the development of learning the proper skills and game knowledge.

Jerry said it well while he coached, “Parents, while having the best interest for their children lose sight of the big picture that soccer teaches.  Soccer is like life, it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon, enjoy the game”.

Jerry was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him.
