Teen Sisters Call Cops on Home Invader

A Spotswood man allegedly knocked on the door of the house before breaking in.

A pair of sisters home alone in their Old Stage Road house called police when a Spotswood man broke in, police say.

At 12:35 p.m. Monday, the sisters, ages 15 and 13 were home when Joseph Sicola, 34, of Spotswood, knocked on their door, according to a Nixle message from the East Brunswick Police Department.

According to the alert, the girls did not recognize Sicola and didn't answer the door. They ran upstairs to their bedroom, and hearing someone in the kitchen, called 911 from a cell phone.

Police forced their way into the house after finding all doors locked and discovered Sicola hiding in a closet on the first floor, according to the message.

Sicola reportedly refused to cooperate with orders from the officers and was subsequently sprayed with pepper spray and arrested, according to the message.

He has been charged with burglary and resisting arrest, and was taken the Middlesex County Jail on $50,000 bail, according to the message.
