Who's East Brunswick's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named Barack Obama its person of the year. Tell us who you think should win from our town!

On Thursday, Dec. 19, Time magazine named Barack Obama as its Person of the Year.

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including Barack Obama, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is East Brunswick's Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

I think mike Reissner is an unsung and quiet person of the township; he does so much, behind the scenes, yet many probably don't know who he is. S. Palmer

It should be people of the year and I vote for the poll workers who worked Election Day at the polls so we were able to cast our ballot. Many of them had no electricity or heat at home, they worked all day at the polls with little or in some cases no heat. In Hammarskjold there were poll workers who had to sit in a cold hall near opening doors with only a small space heater while there was plenty of room for them in the cafeteria. I thank them for their loyalty to the voting process.

Surely there is someone more deserving of recognition than a politician! A beloved teacher, a long-serving volunteer with the rescue squad, a volunteer firefighter, a resident who does charitable work- any of these would be more appropriate.

I suggest the landscaper John Broehl, who volunteered crews of his employees to help the township with tree removal and clean up after Hurricane Sandy.

I second John Broehl

I agree with you Govinda. Residents do not understand the amount of hard work and time that Mr. Stahl puts into his job as Mayor. They just like to complain. He works very, very hard. Like him or not, he does a great job.

Selena ~ you hit the nail on the head!!! I agree with you whole-heartedly!!! He is probably the Township's most valuable employee!!! Very hard working, never complains and always goes above and beyond!!!

I choose Jim Daino of the Joyce Kilmer Rest Stop on the NJ Turnpike off Dunhams Corner Road as the East Brunswick's Person of the Year. During Hurricane Sandy he definitely pushed all the right buttons to accommodate the hundreds of East Brunswick residents who went there for electricity, for warmth, to charge their cell phones, and laptops. He was polite, concerned, easy to talk to, and always available to answer questions. He even offered his own office when space was limited. He said "You can sleep here if you like. The Rest Stop is opened 24/7 for your needs." Jim Daino was here during Hurricane Sandy. He was definitely here for the East Brunswick residents. He should be recognized by the East Brunswick Township as Person of the Year and commended for his accomplishments. Richard F.

I agree! Mr. Daino and the entire staff of the Joyce Kilmer rest stop went above and beyond in a time of need for the entire town of East Brunswick.

Just wondering, is Mike Reissner that same person that played on the EB basketball team in the early/mid 1990's? If yes, I was a neighbor of his. Great is see him doing so well.
