National Medical Group Endorses Beck for Congress

AAPS is a nationwide non-partisan association of physicians that works to preserve medical freedom and help physicians reduce third party interference in their relationship with patients.

The PAC for the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) announced their endorsement today of Republican Nominee Eric Beck in his race for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th District.

“Eric Beck will be a fresh new face in the House of Representatives who will add a voice for common sense to a Congress that has lost its way,” said Dr. Alieta Eck, President of the AAPS. “We are looking forward to the complete repeal of ObamaCare and know that Eric Beck will work tirelessly to make that happen.”

AAPS is a nationwide non-partisan association of physicians that works to preserve medical freedom and help physicians reduce third party interference in their relationship with patients.

“Organizations like the AAPS are doing great work to speak for patients and doctors around the country,” Beck said. “But we need to achieve long-term solutions in Washington. In Congress, I will work to build a value-based healthcare system that reduces cost, improves quality and expands access, all while putting patients first. That is the solution we need to make healthcare affordable for all Americans.”

If they are non partisan, why are they endorsing a GOP political candidate?

In 2004, AAPS filed a brief on behalf of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh in Florida's Fourth District Court of Appeal, opposing the seizure of his medical files in an investigation of drug charges for Limbaugh's alleged misuse of prescription drugs. The AAPS stated the seizure was a violation of state law and that 'It is not a crime for a patient to be in pain and repeatedly seek relief, and doctors should not be turned against patients they tried to help.'"

The AAPS is a far right wing libertarian, Tea Partyish, Ayn Randian, John Bircher type of group. Rand Paul belongs to this group. They are non-partisan except for all the times that they support the most right wing of the GOP. The AAPS statement of principles declares that it is "evil" and "immoral" for physicians to participate in Medicare and Medicaid. Wow, that's a nice group, totally wacko.

In 2005 the AAPS' Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons published an attack on illegal immigrants, claiming that leprosy "was so rare in America that in 40 years only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in the past three years America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy." In fact, there had been just 431 reported cases of Hansen's disease, or leprosy, over the "past three years" in question. That false claim was uncritically repeated by commentators such as CNN's Lou Dobbs.

To call AAPS non-partisan, is absurd. To call It a fringe group is inaccurate. From its history, cited above by Joe R., it is a bizarre group with paranoid thinking. It does not represent American physicians or their patients. It does not reflect well on Eric Beck.

This is from the actual AAPS web site:
"It is simple to opt out of Medicare - far simpler than staying in the Medicare program. Thousands of physicians have already opted out, and we have not heard a single regret by any of these physicians. Medicare endangers seniors, rations care and punishes the best doctors whose only aim is to give the best care. For the sake of patients and integrity of the profession, doctors should get out of Medicare." That is totally insane, AAPS has everything backwards. Without Medicare, most seniors would not be able to afford health care or health insurance, if they could even find a company that would give them health insurance. Medicare makes it possible for ordinary American seniors to get decent quality care, regular check ups and palliative care. The AAPS is obviously anti-Medicare and would love to kill off Medicare, I call that an extreme fringe wingnut group.

This is a very slippery slope for Patch to be posting political candidates as local blogs.
Beck is going to get a ton of endorsements from these position groups, as will Holt on the other side. I take issue with Patch allowing direct release of what are really unfiltered press releases from this campaign being presented as local voices. A voice is an opinion, a retort to an action or movement or how to make a pasta salad. Not political theatre. and if it is Patch's policy to allow this, then expect the fringe parties to demand equal coverage and posting rights. and that is just my voice...

While I appreciate and support your position Greta, I also see the point Patrick is making. Blogs are written by individuals to write about whatever and even your blog application link says "Share what you know. Ask what you don't. " Doesn't "you" refer to an individual? ... who names themselves "Eric Beck for Congress" or "The Office of Lt Gov Kim Guadagno". And then these so called blogs are written as if they are "news"....gees either one of these people could come back and say they were misquoted by their own blog! Most of the "Local Voices" are real people writing their own blogs...neither Eric Beck nor Kim Guadagno wrote their submissions, they were written by their office or PAC else why would they write it like it is news?. Have they been written especially for Patch readers or spammed to every news outlet in the area as "news"? I agree with the "slippery slope" comment.

My point is, if I want to write about why I am supporting a candidate that is my opinion... And it is taken as such. When an elected politician writes about a local service or deadline or something that effects all of their constituency evenly and without political purpose.... that is an announcement. But using these pages to politic is against what a voice is, its in the wording... It also bring out the trolls. and the ugly side of Patch. I'm just concerned as election day draws closer that those seeking office on all sides will take to these pages and will be confused with reportage. The only thing that separates these pages from a Patch written page is a small banner that says local voices. and take this press release, its not an opinion piece or position paper. It is an endorsement... By a group I'm sure none of us have heard of before... I googled the name and there where no results for the group in the first page of results..
