OPERATALK: CANDIDE With Joanna Barouch

OPERATALK: CANDIDE
With Joanna Barouch
Thursday, January 30 • 7 p.m.
Based on Voltaire’s classic, the comic operetta Candide features a brilliant score by Leonard Bernstein. The operetta has been described as “Monty Python: circa 1759,” and is a delightfully satirical—and frequently bawdy—romp.

The story follows the journeys of Candide and his true love, Cunégonde. Through encounters with pirates, heretics, pilgrims, courtesans, police, slaves, strolling players, sheep, concubines, philosophers, soldiers, monks, thieves, noblemen, a cow, a Pygmy, a mystic and The Grand Inquisitor, the lovers discover how life can be “happiness indeed.”

The Arts Commission is offering discounted tickets ($10.50) for the Feb. 2 matinee of Candide at the Nicholas Music Center at Rutgers University. For tickets/info, call or email Bunny Gittleman at 732-257-5583 or Bunny2@comcast.net.
