Final Farewell to The Grease Trucks - New Brunswick

Having grown up in Central Jersey and attended Rutgers University, I simply couldn't ignore the fact that tomorrow the Grease Trucks will be moving from the lot they've occupied for the last 20+ years. From post Scarlet Knight games I attended in high school to late nights in college, the Grease Trucks have always been a staple at Rutgers University for more than just students or locals. I have met quite a few people from out of town who have made the pilgrimage to New Brunswick just to say they have stuffed a fat sandwich into their face. Featured in several publications as well as television programs (most notably Man vs. Food Season 2 Episode 19) the fat sandwich consists of a wide variety of ingredients (anywhere from cheesesteaks, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, cheeseburgers, jalapeno poppers, pork roll, fried eggs, of course lettuce, tomato and bacon to get your vegetables, etc. etc. ) all slathered in mayonnaise, (wait.. is bacon NOT a vegetable??) ketchup and/or marinara sauce inside an overstuffed hoagie roll.  Each person who has dared attempt such a gastronomical conquest has their own personal favorite, this blogger's being the Fat Darrell (pictured above) which consists of French fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers and marinara sauce (feel free to share your own favorites or experiences at the 'Trucks). My last visit, accompanied by my younger brother, had less to do with the sandwich itself but more the nostalgia of standing in line salivating at the thought of the sandwich that awaits us, ordering at the small window, then awaiting the warm heavy bundle wrapped in foil and eating, no, inhaling, the 1500+ calories of fat and carbohydrates. With that I bid you adieu oh Grease Trucks, while I'm sure our arteries will thank you, the memories you have given all of us wont soon be forgotten!
