GBC Football Takes Player Safety To The Next Level

In our continuing effort to provide our players with the safest possible environment to play in,  the East Brunswick / Spotswood Golden Bear Chargers have teamed up with the NFL's Heads Up Football Player Safety Training Curriculum. Last week on 7/27/13, GBC Mighty Mite Football Coach John-Paul attended the Heads Up Safety Coaches Clinic held at Rutgers University. During the full day course Coach J.P. was instructed in the latest and safest coaching techniques available to youth football players today. As GBC's Player Safety Coach, J.P. will be taking the lessons he learned and holding a Coach's Clinic for all the GBC Football coaches at the Warnsdorfer Field in East Brunswick this Saturday. He is also encouraging as many parents who would like to attend to please show up and see how GBC will be coaching your kids this season. The course will show coaches that football is not just running full speed into another player as hard as you can, but rather a very skilled game that can be just as safe as it is fun if taught correctly.

In keeping with our "Safety First" focus, GBC Pee Wee Head Coach and Equipment Manager Dan K. recently held an equipment trailer clean out. Coach Dan tossed out every helmet, set of shoulder pads, and any other pads he felt would not protect our kids to the fullest. He has thrown himself fully into his new roll as Equipment Manager researching what helmets rate the best and how to properly fit the players to reduce their risk of injury. When all that was done, he presented the GBC Board with a request for 40 brand new, top of the line, Schutt Helmets. It was with great pleasure that Coach Dan was not only given the funds for the new helmets but also received 8 free helmets from the supplier due to the size of his order. In addition to the helmets GBC purchased over the past few seasons, every child will be guaranteed the safest protection available.

Working together Coach J.P. and Coach Dan will personally fit every football player with their helmet and shoulder pads according to the instructions given out by Heads Up Football so all our boys take the field in the proper gear.

Finally, because we feel our girls who work just as hard as the boys do from August 1 also deserve the best, Cheer Commissioner was able to show off a sample of the new uniforms we purchased for our competetion level cheerleaders. When these girls get to competitions they are first judged on uniform appearance and we won't send them to the stage in anything but the best. Here's hoping our Junior Pee Wee cheer team can continue to build on their fantastic 5th place at nationals in Disney Land last season.
