GBC Plays Against Breast Cancer

On October 6, 2013 GBC Football and Cheer will be hosting a Breast Cancer fundraiser at its home games. GBC has teamed up with the Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money and awareness to help in the fight against this terrible disease. The games, held at Spotswood High School, begin at 9:00 am with the Tiny Might team and finish up with the Junior Pee Wee team kicking off at 1:30 pm. GBC will be collecting donations at the gate while also donating proceeds from the day to the Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation. DJ Wacky Wayne from DJWW Enterprises will be providing entertainment throughout the day while the women from Straight Teasin’ Hair Salon in Spotswood will be doing pink hair chalk for all the kids in attendance, we will also have face painting and pink ribbon tattoos for all who want to participate. Krista Kasper, Chair of Mama Mare will have a booth set up during the games to distribute information about the foundation as well as sell tickets to the Rutgers University Homecoming Game against Houston to be held on October 26th at a reduced price with a portion of the proceeds going directly to Mama Mare.

Krista Kasper founded the Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation in February of 2010, just two short months after the loss of her own mother for whom the foundation is named. Since then, Mama Mare has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars that are spent to advance their mission to support and assist breast cancer patients and their families as well as fund important biomedical research in looking for a cure. In addition, they have recently begun the Survivors Thrive Grant Program which has already given away over $25,000 in grants to patients currently battling or who are within 2 years of their treatment. This past March they held the 3rd annual De-Feet Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk in Belmar NJ which helped raise thousands of dollars, most of which is spent locally on families and research. For more information on this wonderful foundation and a list of upcoming events visit their website www.mamamare.org

GBC and Mama Mare hope to see a packed house for all the games on October 6th. In addition to a great day of football and cheerleading action you get to help out an outstanding charity and a noble cause. If you are a local business who would like to donate goods or services to the event, or if you are not able to attend but would like to donate please feel free to e-mail the GBC Board at goldenbearchargers@yahoo.com or visit our website www.gbcfootballcheer.com
