Harvie's Inferno: A Welcoming

Hi, my name is Joe Harvie and I am a die-hard Devils fan. By writing that sentence I’ve already brought on an onslaught of angst-filled comments and e-mails by Rangers and Flyers fans who for some reason can’t help but read a blog about the Devils.

I’m not here to bash any team. Rather, I’m here to write about the sport I love and the team I love the most. So, let’s try to be civil here. I tend to be an honest fan.  I know when the Devils play poorly (for example the Stanley Cup finals – seriously what the heck was going on there?) I try not to blame referees for losses – I blame the players for not being able to find the back of the net or stop the other team from scoring.

A friend of mine asked me to blog about Devils hockey.  I think he asked me to do this because he is sick of hearing me blab on incessantly about the Devils. Seriously, even during the utterly ridiculous lock-out I couldn’t help but wonder aloud, “I wonder what Bryce Salvador is up to?”

So, I’m here, hopefully until June, to talk about the NJ Devils, provide game recaps when I’m able to watch, my thoughts on what is going on with the team, and hopefully not incite any hate or anger. Let’s be nice. Remember, hockey is just a sport and there are things that are much more important than watching grown men get paid oodles of cash to play a game (albeit at a level so intense it makes me jealous).

Let’s forget about how mad we are at the billionaires and millionaires that fought over money while keeping the most exciting game in world from the loyal masses who are regularly out-numbered at the sports bar by basketball fans: but let’s all be honest here—NHL jerseys are way cooler than NBA jerseys. And let’s get ready to head to the pond with an ice-cold Labatt’s in hand and cheer on the only professional team with the stones to admit they are from the greatest state in the union – New Jersey!
