Harvie's Inferno: Lou Rocks the Draft

The Devilsaholic kicks the dust off and proves that Lou's powers are enhanced by Earth's yellow sun.

Forget Henry Cavill, Lou Lamoriello is the true son of Zor El.

Pulling off a whopper of a deal with the Vancouver Canucks, the Devils traded their first round draft pick (8th overall pick) in exchange for 27-year-old proven NHL high-caliber goaltender Cory Schneider.

The Martin Brodeur succession plan is in place and hopefully Schneider can stay healthy and sign a long-term deal with the team. The cost was very small for the Devils. Yes a nice young centerman would've been nice, and yes I did invest in a Hedberg jersey for my girlfriend last year (she likes to pair it with her moose hat and scream Moooooooooooooooooose at games) and yeah he'll probably be bought out in the comings days, but this plan makes sense. The Devils have a talented young goalie that will be able to ease Marty's workload this season, and become the franchise goaltender for years to come.

The Devils also drafted 18-year-old goaltender Anthony Brodeur (yeah he's Marty's son) in the seventh round. The kid is a NJ native and the son of a legend, and will hopefully pan out as an NHL goaltender in the future.

The Devils have also re-signed Dainius Zubrus to a a three year deal and are reportedly (I'm looking at you Rich Chere) close to signing Patrik Elias.

The only remaining piece of the puzzle is David Clarkson. I have a feeling he will be lost to free agency (I should remind you that I operate on hunches alone and have no inside knowledge whatsoever), and it will be sad to see him go, but that is the nature of the business end of this sport. He has been a valuable member of the Devils organization both on and off the ice for many years. I do hope he stays, he is a strong player and proved he can become a goal-scoring threat.

This is just the start of the off-season wheeling and dealing session and I have full faith that Lou Lamoriello and his crew have the knowledge and talent to not only put the Devils back into the playoffs but design a team that will contend for a cup in the upcoming season.

Let's Go Devils!
