Freecycling, it's fun, free and environmentally friendly!

Freecycling is simply an opportunity to donate and recycle virtually anything by bringing it to the Crystal Springs parking lot. But that's only the half of it. The best part is that you can take away anything else you want that someone else left there. It's a big trading event and it's all FREE!  It's a way for all of us to find something we need and keep as much stuff out of our landfill as possible in a fun way.  It’s an opportunity to clean up the garage, kitchen and closets. You can drop off kitchenware, clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, sports equipment, bikes, fashion accessories, and much more. And there is no doubt you will find things to take back home with you.

Join the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission for the third Freecycling event on October 28th, from 9am until 3pm, at the Crystal Springs parking lot.

We will have vendors there who will take away items remaining at the end of the day and will donate or recycle them.  In the first two Freecycling events close to 60 tons of items found a new home!  More information on the upcoming Freecyling event can be found at www.friendsebec.com.

The success of the first two Freecycling events won The 'Friends' an Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC ) 2012 Environmental Achievement Award. The award was presented to the ‘Friends’during the ANJEC 39th Annual Environmental Congress, on October 20th, 2012.  Read what ANJEC wrote about the program:

“The Friends group, a nonprofit organization that supports the work of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission, started a FreeCycle program that resembles the nationwide initiative, but with added unique elements. A typical FreeCycle event invites residents to drop off unwanted items and to take home other people’s discarded treasures. While most FreeCycling events require people to take back any items not claimed, the East Brunswick group makes arrangements with various charities and recyclers to accept what was left behind so that landfill impact was minimal. Over 1.000 people attended the first two events and claimed 90 to 95 percent of the items dropped off. About 58 tons were diverted from the landfills.”
