EB Chittick and Bowne Munro Teacher passes

Shelli Fishman, 40, a teacher at and then , died Saturday, July 16, at her home.

She lived in East Brunswick before moving to South Amboy and was a teacher with East Brunswick since 1995. She served as an advisor to the Early Act Club and was recognized with Teacher of the Year in 1998 at the Chittick School.

Beloved by her colleagues, students and their families, she was active in the teachers' union and volunteered for the senior community. She received a bachelor’s degree Women's Studies and Education from of Rutgers University Douglas College.

Her sister, Farah Knight, is deceased. She is survived by her parents, Jerome and Ina Fox Fishman; three brothers, Kacy Knight of New York, Gerry Knight and his wife, Stephanie, of California and Scott Fishman and his wife, Helen, of Bridgeton; and three sisters, Randi Cairns and her husband, Ian, of East Brunswick, Zandi Lawrence and her husband, Doug, of California and Mia Erickson and her husband, Erik, of Georgia.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the , 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. For directions, please visit www.brunswickmemorialhome.com. Cremation will be private.
